After new years i decided to pull out my snes and relive some classic games that i hadn't touched in sometime so i gave a couple a shot like a mario game, super metroid, contra and ghosts and goblins.

I was shocked to discover that they where all so damm difficult, in mario the amount sliding sent me to my death so many times, super metroid saw me get killed by space pirates repeatedly and i don't even want to describe contra and ghosts and goblins i could barely finish the first level in ghosts and goblins.

Now i consider myself a fairly decent gamer and all these games on my wii are fairly easy with gcn controller and i find most of the newer game releases to be pretty easy so when this happened i was genuinely suprised any thoughts and own experiences are welcome

Well there are difficulty settings on most games once you set them to hard it becomes completely ridiculous, MGS Series for example.
Set Left 4 Dead 2 to Expert, you'll die instantly xD
Question: have games gotten to easy

Answer: No.

LOL

seriously, play recent games in hard settings... ive been playing the saboteur recently and its friking hard.
A lot of Wii gmes are easy because they are family oriented, Before, they were geek with no life oriented xD.
Mm....Cruel Brawl?
That is really hard.
Well, look at Mario and Zelda...

Super Mario Galaxy definetily have some tougher platforming than SM64, but he also has the spin jump, meaning he can long jump like crazy without risk. And there's checkpoints, unlike a certain rainbow stage...

In Zelda TP, enemies just don't do enough damage... especially the last boss, who can do as little as 1/4 hearts on his attacks, and is beaten with the fish pole, wtf. Both SMG and Z:TP bosses has way to little HP, it's not fun when a boss is beaten in a minute.

So the games aren't lacking difficulty in depth, the stats are just too soft
true and i now that there where some gamecube games and current gen games on hard mode that drove me up the wall such as metroid prime 2 echoes, resistance 2 and infamous sometimes but i think the difference in difficulty can also be a result of the way snes controller was it never felt 100% comfortable unlike the wiimote, gamecube controller or the various other current gen console controllers.

The whole new wiimote control system made games like Metroid Prime 3 easier than they would have been on the gamecube controller even though it was generally an easier game than the first two even on hyper mode it wasn't as deadly as echoes or the first prime where on hard mode
Mm...Is funny and entertaining when bosses are harder and have at least 3 stages like Zelda Majora Mask. Also the adventure in Zelda Twilight Princess is enjoyable, but is most entertaining on GC version than Wii version.
have game gotten easier

YES

very much yes

you wont see games like chaos engine, contra and killer instinct (ok, not that hard but it can be a bitch sometimes) around these days

That

Games didn't get easier or harder, they are the same, but can now be played by everyone: novice or expert
