I have Super Mario Bros. Wii
The emulator recognizes my Logitech Gamepad 310. I programmed all the buttons in also.
The game starts and goes through it's motions, but I can't get the game to recognize I want to start a game - regardless of what I press on the gamepad or keyboard.
???
What game are you trying to play? Make sure that for GameCube games, you've configured your GameCube Controller settings, and for Wii games you've configured an Emulated Wii Remote.
A common issue is configuring GameCube Controller settings while trying to play Wii games that don't support GameCube controllers, so check that first.
Super Mario Bros. Wii only use the wii controller so you want to use a wii mote or use the emulated wii mote.
So, I'm confused. I can not play it because I don't have the wii controller.
Or I can play it by changing a setting to make use of my controller?
I apologize; I missed the fact that you said New Super Mario Bros. Wii. You just need to configure the correct settings in Dolphin. Make sure you've configured the Emulated Wii Remote settings.

Is this in the controller configuration, or somewhere else.
I've been through the menus 3 times, and can't see anything that says emulate(d) Wii Remote settings.
1) When you open Dolphin, click on the Controllers icon
2) A window should open up. Select "Emulated Wii Remote" option for "Wii Remote 1" then hit the "Configure" button.
3) Configure input for you controller.

This is my window that opens up on my Linux box. I don't see the same option.

It looks a bit different for you because you're using an old version of Dolphin. But the option is still there, it's just labeled Wiimote 1 instead of Wii Remote 1.

Hmm, I told it to use the emualtion remote (even told all 4 of them to).
It allows me to configure my gamepad.
Still, the game doesn't want to start no matter how many buttons I push.
