While sometimes the stock profile and setup for a real Wii remote with Wii motion plus works fine, most of the time the pointer drifts to one side of the screen.

Currently using 5.0-12734 on Arch Linux

Set the remote on a stable surface for your "Calibration Time" period (set on the "Motion Input" tab of your Wii remote configuration).
If you still have drift you can try increasing the gyroscope "Dead Zone" setting on the same tab.

The dead zone seemed to be the problem, 0 degrees couldn't ever recalibrate
