Getting an ultrabook (for travel) with the following specs:

Intel® Core™ i7-8565U 1.8GHz, 4.6GHz Turbo 4MB L3

2GB GeForce MX250 (10W version)

8GB Corsair 2133MHz

Please see attached list of main games I want to play

Would this be ok for 1080p, 16x AF,

AA is nice to have but not too worried about turning it off or having it on absolutle mimimal setting to boost performance.

Would this be enough for per pixel lighting ?

Looking to play: Crazy Taxi, 007 Nightfire, 007 Agent Under Fire, Smashing Drive, Timesplitters 2 & FP, Burnout 1& 2, Tony Hawks Series, Serious Sam, Call of Duty series, Medal of Honor series, Need for Speed series, 2002 Fifa World Cup, Serious Sam, Second Sight

Thank you for your help in advance  Big Grin
That CPU will definitely kill you after it gets hot enough. The base clocks are too low.

Could you post a link to the actual product?

Unfortunately it's not that helpful as it doesn't provide much more info than I've already provided.
Clearly it doesn´t provide sufficient cooling. It´s going to be prone to thermal throttling.
i7-8565U is still quite high 4.1 Ghz at dual core turbo. So the processor may be quite capable. But that depend on cooling system. Like what DJbarry004 said. To get to know if laptop is overheating, its best to see internet reviews!

nvidia 250MX is nice, but keep in mind only with GDDR5. DDR3 makes graphics slow. You would have to check memory type in some viewer application.
For modern PC games, i would buy gpu with 4GB memory. And what means 10W?? Is that cut down version or what.

8Gb is okay. But you must use dual channel (two ddram bones like 2x4GB or 2x8GB) to be fast. Single ddr holds your laptop performance back.

The MX250 comes in two versions, the 10W version and the normal 25W version. Both seem to be a chopped off GT1030.

The MX250 25W is even FASTER than the GT1030!!!

Also about the i7-8565U: The base clock is not always comparable with the info on the internet. The clock will be above 3.2 GHz on two cores which is more than enough for Dolphin 5.0!!! I can say myself that this CPU is even good enough for 4K gaming on Dolphin!!! The i7 8th is OP!!!
About MX250: It's good enough for 1080p gaming with 16x Anisotropic Filtering!!!! If it was the 25W version, you could even go on 1440p gaming!!!

Except that laptop has less than adequate cooling it seems, and that processors is ultra-low voltage which means they only boost their clocks for a burst, then they shut themselves down again to help save energy and to not accumulate heat.

And the base clock is too damn low. It´s more than likely that the CPU will go down there once it gets hot enough.
A properly cooled ULV CPU will sustain its Turbo Clock Speeds constantly, period. So, the correct answer on this case is the laptop from OP should run Dolphin perfectly fine with virtually any GC/Wii game as long as it doesn't overheat, given on that scenario we're talking about a Quad-Core Whiskey Lake (8th-gen) CPU with HyperThreading running at 4.1 GHz on all cores, which coupled with the GeForce MX250 should push 1080p (perhaps even more) on Dolphin with no trouble.

The big question is whether this particular laptop model has a good cooling system or not, but you can Google this specific models for reviews to know that...

I can't find any reviews online for this particular model regarding cooling.

I was going to get a laptop cooling stand anyway. Not sure how much of a difference that will make coolingbut at least my legs won't get toasty !

This laptop has only one RAM slot. How much of a performance impact will it make ?
