At $500 might as well build a tiny PC.

Well the basic model is $350 but yea it's a huge jump just to maintain that single board form factor. My main issue with "tiny" PC's is you're still looking at a massive chunk of change to get anything decently performant as smaller PC hardware is a weird expensive rabbit hole to go down. Most decent "tiny" cases like the Dan SFX series is $200 just for the case before you even put a single piece of hardware in it and it really lacks the convenience, cool factor, and form factor of a(n) SBC. You start looking at computer cases that don't take GPU's and you need to spend $100+ worth of adapters to get an external power supply working and you sometimes even have to drill your own holes. And even after all that you're looking at something that's still larger than a typical console and doesn't really work in the entertainment center.

Asrock has a nice deskmini barebones line but even that ends up being $400+ for a GPU-less AMD based build (which admittedly runs dolphin amazingly).
