Would Wii games run at an acceptable speed on my old Toshiba laptop? It has an ATI 64mb video card and a 2.7 ghz Intel Celeron single core processor. Would I need a super stripped down version of XP Professional (nlite). I guessing it should run at a decent speed because the real Wii has really low specs and it runs fine.
Thanks for any help.
Emmmm no , It's just too weak ( 2.7 ghz single core ?? celeron ?? )
The Wii games run fine in a Wii because they were designed for umm.. a Wii ?
One instruction in the wii PPC could easily convert into 15 intructions in x86 ( I just picked a random number from a comparison "PPC vs x86" made from debugger )
yea a 3.0ghz dual core has trouble running alot of games
Well, I could run games on my main laptop which has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1 ghz and an Intel GMA 4500MHD and it runs fine. I'm guessing the speed comes from something in the WiiOS. Otherwise, why would a PPC processor work better than an Intel one? I mean 500 mhz compared to 2.1 ghz -- really?
As James333 said, its because games are developed to run natively with the wii hardware (crap)
how is it that this concept is so hard to understand?
as the project progresses we might be able to get higher performance with weaker machines but not a single core lol... what year is this 1999? get with the program and buy a quad-core already.
I have a quad core and it runs perfectly on that. I have a Dell Studio with a dual core and it runs perfectly. I understand that the games were made for the Wii. I just don't know what is so different about the PPC architecture that makes it run slower on the x86 architecture. Is it doing an "on-the-fly" recompiling and translating of the code while the games run?
It's a "Just-In-Time" recompiler , and the problem is the "difference" that you say , one instruction in PPC code in x86 could be 15. Is like put my CPU in a wii and see if it work.
I see. If only x86 had less complicated programming

. Darn.
the ppc architecture is EXTREMELY different from the x86
Hi all. I was wondering if dolphin will work for gamecube games on a toshiba single core laptop, 2.2ghz, intel celeron900? I've been trying to set it up for days now, thx. dnt need wii games, gamecube will suffice.
