This is way off-topic but I'd rather not have to ask in Steam where there seems to be a majority of socially challenged people.

I got into PC gaming about 4 years ago and have mostly played single player games and a few cooperative games.  The only game where I've spent any significant time playing PvP has been Rocket League, so that is my point of reference.  However, I do like shooting games a lot and would like to find one where I can drop in and out occasionally for a match or two to let off some steam (no pun intended, could be Origin or Uplay).

I'm looking for a recommendation of a game or games that best match(es) these qualities:

- Good skill ranking system so that you are usually matched against similarly capable or incapable opponents
- Timed or relatively short match lengths, say 15 minutes at the most, not battle royal type
- Not too class-based where someone would be confined be a doctor or spotter or something like that
- With realistic modern graphics, as opposed to say, >6 year old games or games with cartoonish graphics
- Preferably containing maps with a large are of operation
- Either first or third person would be fine for me

I am yet to play the Tom Clancy's The Division on Steam but it looks like it might fit within those guidelines and also allow me to team up with a friend to do separate campaign style gaming, but I don't know for sure.

If anybody has any games in mind that you feel conform well to what I'm looking for, please let me know.
Overwatch comes to mind as a good fit. It’s also on sale right now on humble bundle

I was thinking that, but I didn't think it fit this too well

I mean that’s lie the only point that doesn’t fit too well, but a lot of the characters can play multiple roles (if a bit poorly)
With that much requirements, the only game I think of is CSGO.
Rainbow Six Siege also kinda works, but classes are important.
Thank you all for the ideas. I'm leaning towards CSGO if the matchmaking is good enough to pair me with other rookies.
Nothing meets ALL of those criteria perfectly.

I've been playing a lot of Hunt:  Showdown and love it.

Based on your criteria:
Quote:- Good skill ranking system so that you are usually matched against similarly capable or incapable opponents

Since the playerbase is still growing the matchmaking system is limited to three tiers right now but there are plans to expand that in the future.

Quote:- Timed or relatively short match lengths, say 15 minutes at the most, not battle royal type

Average match length is around 10-20 minutes.

Quote:- Not too class-based where someone would be confined be a doctor or spotter or something like that

Definitely not class based.

Quote:- With realistic modern graphics, as opposed to say, >6 year old games or games with cartoonish graphics

One of if not the best looking fps I have ever played.  Cryengine is the only engine that does global illumination well imo.

Quote:- Preferably containing maps with a large are of operation

Large by modern fps standards but not as large as BR.

Quote:- Either first or third person would be fine for me

First person.

First person.

Thank you.  It looks promising.  I'll let it develop a bit more but I'll keep an eye on specials.
If you want some idea of what to expect as an average player check my channel. I stream usually at least once a week.
"I advise you The Division a game of very high quality!
the tactical side is really there, the game can be done either entirely solo or in a team, everything is customizable, the equipment, the weapons, the abilities etc .. and the difficulty is really there"
