When I select nunchuck extension in Wii controller settings, it defaults back to none. I've also noticed that ir would reverse in behaviour.
Using on Shield TV Oreo update with 5.0-8512 build.
No one else has this problem?
I do have a problem with the ir being incredibly inaccurate and not being able to reach the bottom of the screen. But I can select nunchuck extension just fine and play with the emulated nunchuck.

Which version are you using?

While in the app it defaults back to none, it does actually set the extension in WiimoteNew.ini. This is just a UI bug.

In an older build I was able to use the nunchuck to select the file in mario galaxy because the pointer wouldn't go all the way to the bottom. But now the joystick doesn't do anything.
The game won't even let you get to the file select if the nunchuck isn't plugged in.

You're right, just tried mario kart Wii and joystick works. But I'm unable to select get the pointer on start game on both Mario Galaxy games. The pointer doesn't go low enough and the joystick doesn't highlight the back icon or play this file.

Ok so is anyone able select the file without using a Wiimote?
Can I use a savesate from dolphin pc on the shield?

You can transfer regular save files between different types of devices (PC, Android and even real consoles) without any problems.
When it comes to savestates, it's a bit more complicated. First of all, you need to make sure that the savestate was created on the same version of Dolphin or at least a close enough version to the version that you are using to load it. Second, GameCube games (but not Wii games) will not let you transfer savestates between x64 and ARM64 by default because only x64 defaults the MMU setting to on, but you can avoid that by manually changing the MMU setting (which is not available in the standard config GUI). Also, Wii savestates (maybe GameCube too? I'm not sure?) may cause problems if the regular save file that is stored on the device doesn't match what was present when creating the savestate.
