I would be really nice, I would have guess it was hardware limited. Isn't it a little dangerous to let it run at higher speed than what hardware was designed for tho ?
Possibly - I assume the cooling systems and power delivery would be designed with the limit in place.
But trying to tell people here about the possible issues with stuff like that is a losing prospect....
The Tegra X1 can handle up to 80°C. When running PPSSPP without the fan on it heats up to 40°C. It feels warm on touch because it's unusually hot for the Switch, however I think the SoC will be fine.
Does the Switch do thermal management in the OS or firmware? If it's firmware, then we don't know what they'll throttle the chip to at what temp
I don't know, some people should know more about this subject than me. I tested the stability using PPSSPP and it's quite stable, I was able to play for an hour without any crash / power failure. It was hot for a portable console, which are not supposed to be, but not so much.
edit : I don't imply that it crashed after an hour, I just stopped playing
