Wait for the Oreo update, should provide r20 drivers as it does on other Kirin 659 devices running Oreo.

how old of a build would you suggest?
So I tried an older version, and I got a couple games to load, but the textures are all messed up

Older builds, especially on android, tend to be missing core emu features. Not to mention the buffer storage issue still remains. The newest builds are frankly your best bet. Beyond that, pray for an android P update from Huawei or just deal with the OpenGL performance. Considering your device has only A53 cores, even with ideal drivers you would be hard pressed for playable speeds.

Yeah, the thing is, the games aren't loading at all. It's not that I can't get playable speeds, I just can't get any speed

Edit: Based on gfxbench.com, the Galaxy S7 was shipped with driver revision r9 to r15. The Honor 7X was only seen with one driver revision, the r12. Seems like Huawei is not going to ship driver updates.
Interesting, i have mali g71 huawei mate 9 pro. It has v2 with nougat and probably v8 with oreo. What i the minimum requirement driver for mali to run dolphin with vulkan without crash?

Also, i didnt find on gfxbench site driver newer than v9 for samsung s8-G71/s9-G72. I wonder what is in s7 edge device that had so many driver revisions? test unit?

Devices with BiFrost GPU architecture have a seperate driver revision, r9 is roughly equivalent to the latest Midgard drivers around r20.

Thanks, right.

What about opensourcedrivers? It was always announced but never seen. Now found this site https://developer.arm.com/products/software/mali-drivers/midgard-kernel but it looks like its for devs and not userend runtime drivers. At least we know what is baking.

So either manufacturer updates drivers or user installs custom ROM, like Lineage (perviosly cyanogen) with newer drivers from other device..
