I'll definately check the processes priority in task manager, although I don't see how it woulsd have changed, this is a good idea.
Specs are x2 7750+ (2.71ghz) ,9600gt, 2gigs of ram.
Definately not corrupted iso's as that wouldn't just make the games slow it would break them.
Last night I played with all the settings to no avail. System was overclocked to 3.0ghz but I brought it back down to stock in an effort to fix this problem two nights ago. Temperatures are all fine (pleasantly cool infact, under 40 under load).

I'll try deleting the .dolphinx64wd file and then try different version of dolphin. And oh my god literally as I type this sentance I realise that maybe I have turned cool and quite on by accident when I reset my bios which would definately make sense if it was causing the problem.

Thanks alot guys especially Necorum I really hope I get home and find C&Q turned on in the BIOS that would be a relieving yet embarrissing moment Smile

Hmm have you stressed tested after you went back to stock ? prime95?

any recent upgrade in drivers or bios's?

Not every game runs full speed, no matter what your processor. This has nothing to do with my problem my games were working fine and now just slow down to a crawl for 5-10seconds every minute or so. Your game is just slow full stop, buy a console if you wanna play it bad enough.

I do have a Wii that has been softmodded and works fine. I just wanted to test out Dolphin's capabilities. Another said it work fine on an AMD machine with Orlean version of Dolphin. Maybe I should try another build of Dolphin and see if it did make a difference. Mine is an Intel i7 processor, so I guess Dolphin wasn't optimized for the i7. It was strange to see info. displaying that I have 16 cores running LOL.
Four times four i suppose although that is wierd, if only!
disable hyperthreading
Dolphin still runs slow during certain segments and the graphics starts tearing whenever I move in FFIV: The After Years. I did disable hyperthreading and I still get problems with graphical errors. Maybe I should try a different build of Dolphin.

Edit: I tried 2 other builds and I still get the same problem with movement in graphics. It seems to happen the most whenever I try to enter a door, then I appear one space to the right of the door. As soon as I start moving, the screen jerks around whenever I try to move and entering the next location seem to be really off. I appear to be one space off to the right when I tried to enter a small area through the door, then the screen moves around violently when I try to walk to the stairs.

Hey stunts, I am having EXACTLY the same problem with Dolphin that you are. Just like you said every 30 seconds or so the gameplay slows way down to an unbearable speed (like maybe 6 fps) and then it just comes right out of it and goes back to full speed. It doesn't seem to matter what game either. Back when FF4-TAY came out I set up Dolphin and had played about 10 hours into the game with no problems until my crappy AS-Rock mobo died on me. I finally got a new ASUS P5KPL-CM and also upgraded the video card to a 7900 GS (from a 6800 XT) and that is when this problem started. I haven't messed with any bios settings or hyperthreading or anything like that yet, but I did try several different versions of dolphin and messed with all kinds of settings - all of which had no effect. I play games through steam all the time and right now I am playing Bioshock and I never have any problems. Attached is an Everest hardware specifications report (HTML format), if you want you can compare specs. Maybe that will help to narrow it down because it seems this could very well be hardware related.

Edit 12/03/09

Well I fixed the problem. While playing Bioshock I noticed that I was getting some audio distortion, so I updated my sound drivers - which did nothing. Then I decided to try my old SB 128 that I have from years back and Bioshock sounded great after that. Thought maybe I should see if that affected Dolphin and sure enough the problem is gone. Maybe try either updating or downgrading your sound drivers?
