Hello, I recently began playing the Metroid Prime trilogy at the recommendation of a friend, and he said that save states are pretty much a necessity with how unstable the game saves can be. Problem is, any time I try to load a save state that was made in a previous session, it crashes, like so

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tATCZcRK...e=youtu.be

Note that it doesn't do this when I load a save state that I saved within the same session, just after closing and reopening Dolphin

I haven't had any loss of saves yet, but I figured it would be best to try and get it sorted out anyway.

Thank you.
Does the issue still happen when you use the latest development build? Try upgrading to something newer than the 5.0 stable release and see if that helps.

It actually is the other way around... Don't use Save states, they can break games in the most spectacular ways. In-game saves are the only ones that are actually reliable, only use save states for back-up, they might become incompatible with a new version of Dolphin.
