kinda want to point out that the Shield TV is a great reason for Dolphin goodness.

But it's starting to get long in the tooth now...

An updated version w/cortex A75s would be lovely.

And performance wise the SD835 isn't bad, certainly for the thermal limits of a phone form factor - if they just did a *little* more work on their driver compatibility it would be great.... It's more frustrating how close it is, yet it never seems to get any better (we just hit *different* bugs on new versions...)

I definitely think things are going to improve. We’ve got quite a few android conversions in the works like GRID autosport, that were built for far more stable drivers, and with a big porting company like feral behind itd them I expect Qualcomm will be force to fix bugs (GRID autosport was already a huge challenge for iOS, which completely blew out the metal drivers. ). I know it’s really not 1:1 for games vs dolphin, but considering how basic some of these driver issues seem to be, and the sheer will of progress on part of game devs, I feel at least some of them will be addressed. With nvidia bowing out of the SoC race in android, companies seeking to do big desktop conversions to android are looking at Qualcomm to provide them with the secure foundation nvidia was providing, and I hope that shift in responsibility is what will enable better drivers.
I believe some day Android smartphones will be for handheld consoles what PC is for normal consoles. But I hope we don't get in a world full of free-to-play (or pay-to-win) games.
After playing wii games in all its glory (pc, dolphin, wii remotes, etc) I dont think it will be as enjoyable on android. At least on phones.

GC games on the other hand, will be interesting.

People really use wii remote emulation on pc dolphin? They are missing half the experience.

The point is not about them trying to fix their rendering bugs in games. The point is that they don't try to release as few bugs as possible. I still wonder why no mobile vendor tries to run the unit tests of mesa, it would have catched *lots* of bugs.

Why bother if they’ll sell their chips just as well. Fix bugs as needed rather than paying to be proactive. Until these vendors face penalties for lackluster testing, they won’t have much of an incentive. I don’t expect that to change, so my hope is towards fixing the bugs that are known. Qualcomm has so little serious competition there’s no incentive to step up their game, and with ARM shipping drivers of considerably worse quality they have little to fear right now.

This reminds me Intel few months ago when AMD had shitty processors. Competition is the only way to make fast progress, the Cold War is the proof, but we don't have this in mobile world.
Problem is most users wont care about drivers problems. They just run the shi**y game of the moment and they are happy with that.

So, there is no way to affect sales. People that like to use emulators, push the hardware beyond its limits, mod the kernel, etc, are just a minority.

Maybe when we see more console game ports coming to mobile, we will have better drivers.

Yes, but competition is rated by the customers. And they don't buy the device based on quality drivers.

Does it make sense to use something like LineageOS rather than original firmware on an Android device for Dolphin? The Qualcomm drivers are probably still bad, but at least they'll be more up to date. Using Vulkan Caps Viewer there's just so much that's unsupported on my device right now...
