You can try reconnecting the wiimote with alt-f5.
so pressing the shortcut does nothing for me, but i went to tools > connect wiimote and did it that way but as soon as i connect the wiimote it is disconnected by emulator software. It appears this is the issue and that is why my controller is not registering
So i tried to use my keyboard to see if it's the gamepad that is malfunctioning, but i can't play via keyboard either. The gamepad issue has been happening for years, yet there isn't a solution to it. I've googled my issue and i've seen many similar that have no solution posted. I guess i'll just give up till a later release where the issue is fixed
