The pack has been revamped with the textures of Andrat's Mario Kart 64 HD for GLideN64. That pack is still WIP and further progress will be synced with this Dolphin port. This new updated pack which got ported by GhostlyDark for the Wii VC replaces the old pack I once made.

Texture Pack status

- Current version is: 2022-05-18.
- Both the PNG and DDS pack are uploaded.
- Both packs are packed in the 7-zip format. You might need to download 7-zip to unpack them. Newer versions of WinRAR should work too.
- 35.514 textures ported so far
- Supported Mario Kart 64 versions: NTSC-U (PAL and NTSC-J should work too).
- Prefetching the DDS BC7 pack requires 4.6 GB RAM.
- Use the latest development build or the latest Ishiiruka build which allows for DDS BC7 support and decreased RAM usage for DDS BC7 packs. These features are not available for the older stable 5.0 build.

Known Issues

- Menu textures might be missing sometimes due the many duplicate textures.
- Menu backgrounds, the character select menu and the characters are not going to be ported due the hundreds of textures being duplicated.
- Winning a cup will cause that cup to be untextured since it is yet another set of duplicates.
- Exiting a specific course, switching from a specific course or character to another specific course or character going through menu's, virtually anything can cause duplicate textures.
- Duplicate textures affects the menu's, character select portraits and character models themselves. The environments however should not have any duplicate textures.

Improvements Through Action Replay or Gecko codes

Mario Kart 64 (NTSC-U): (Show Spoiler)

IMPORTANT
* Each spoiler is tagged with the game version. Carefully check if codes ar AR or Gecko.
* Disable the "Widescreen Hack" (Graphics -> Enhancements).
* Select "Stretch to Window" (Graphics -> General - Display - Aspect Ration).
* Only use one Widescreen code at a time.
* Only codes that improve the quality of the game are requested such as improving upon difficulty (harder CPU, less time), fun (instant items) or visual experience (60 FPS, widescreen, extended view).
* Know any good codes? Great, let me know and I add them into the code section here.

It is about time! The first version of the Mario Kart 64 texture pack I have been porting for a while. It is still not done yet through. Many thanks to masterotaku for his earlier work! I add more screenshots of ingame racing once I finished a few maps. I probably redo all the screenshots once I am done and if we having a true working widescreen code. I don't know if my next update will be for Mario Kart 64, I would like to look into Zelda 64 once again at some point. This update might not seem big, but there are a lot of textures being ported, most of them being duplicates.

I am still in the progress of editing this thread. Let me know if I messed it up.
I still have to port the improved widescreen patch I made for the N64 version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHO3fTJP3lk shows a video of the N64 version
There are some spelling mistakes though ("Browser" instead of Bowser, "Warrio" instead of Wario).
Yelp, I never noticed it... Well... I fix it with the next update. Nothing too hard to fix, but it might take a while for the next update. Good that you pointed it out.
Yeah... Mario shouldn't be using his WIFI at Browser's Castle. Anyway... Brower's Castle should be Bowser's Castle. I dunno why Wario misspelled his own stage, which should be Wario Stadium.

V0.2 Fixes: (Show Spoiler)
Anyway, update V0.2 is far from done. Don't expect it too soon yet.
Just wondering if it would be easy for you to show what it looked like before. I haven't played the game in years (probably on the actual console was the last time I played it) and so I don't remember how bad it looked. Just a side note: Wondering if anyone is willing to re-texture Paper Mario 64 because I loved that game and would definitely help the project as I'm sure many people would, have you thought of it? I'm aware of a few people who tried to do it for the N64 Emu (didn't care for their re-textures because they deviated from the original textures too much) but not sure if anyone ever tried doing it to the virtual console version. I can't imagine it would be hard to use the GIMP vector pen on the original textures because they were naturally flat colors.

You mean like screenshots before and after the texture pack? I could look into that, but not anytime soon yet. First update V0.2.

Regarding Paper Mario 64, I had some work done on the HUD, but only the HUD. I do not intend to do anymore than that. Paper Mario 64 is way too hard and way too big beyond the HUD. There is supposedly the New Paper Mario project by Nelde which is a texture pack for Paper Mario 64 (orginally for Project64, but now for Dolphin). But I haven't heard from the project in a while. Well... My approach was put into the freezer a long time ago since I shifted towards Ocarina of Time (best game of all time before Breath of the Wild came, so that was a must-have to port completely), Majora's Mask (similar to OoT in scope) and Super Smash Bros. 64 (tedious but nothing too hard, quite relaxing too) after I was done with Super Mario 64. Well... Perhaps after Mario Kart 64 again. Both Mario Kart 64 and Paper Mario 64 are a beast to retexture. I am not really that skilled, I might be even one of the less-skilled around here. But there is a lot of fun to have with porting textures. So why not.

EDIT: Work in progress

Battle Mode: (Show Spoiler)
Yay, this is awesome Admentus, Mario Kart 64 is a great game, only to be held back by it's dated graphics. Many thanks for this!

Serfrost

A friend and I play Mario Kart 64 almost every day.  I've been looking for a good texture pack to work with, as most are sub-par or unfinished.  I'm hoping you get this going soon, I'll end up using it immediately if you have good results. Smile

Good luck.
