That depends on what games you want to play (e.g. Skyward Sword requires it).

It won't do anything at all in games that don't support it, but a sensor bar is probably a good idea.

but metroid requires it, since i dont get any cursor on the screen when i try to start a new game.
trying to play metroid prime 3 with mouse and keyboard, why does the cursor not move past 70% of the screen height? it can move all the way to the left and right and bottom but not up.
You probably need to adjust the IR height in the wiimote settings.
