CPUs are rated for up to 90 C
GPU is the same 90 C
Lion Battery's are rated up to 110 C

Also these chips have their own hardware thermal protection, removing the software side is not a big deal.

My device without any thermal software enabled never gets above 39.5 C for the battery , 42 C for the CPU and 55 C for the GPU.

You might still have other components that would be afected by those higher temperatures regardless.

Also, would putting an IP68 rated device on ice help with thermal throttling? Since it's sealed it should be fine, no?
Probably help a bit lol

But this is an insane way to get an emulator that doesn't get much attention on Android working.

Putting it on ice is not at all a good idea , even dry ice could causing warping from the temperature change.

By disabling throttling I get drastic improvements in speed.

Fire emblem Radiant Dawn does from an average 5- 12 fps to 40 - 50 fps at all times.

The main idea of this thread was to show that it's possible and Dolphin runs amazing without these thermal limitations.

For an emulator that doesn't get much attention it sure runs amazingly well and has some great Android based features.

I'd say it's pretty logical, just hinges on the insanity of the users to attempt it.

I'm going to try installing silver shims for a heatsync

I think a Heatsync is a more logical solution, you could likely get away with copper.
That's pretty extreme to modify your phone with heatsync Big Grin
Okay , after many trial and error changes it seems I have come to a compromise which shouldn't damage the device.

I have kept thermal throttling disabled completely but I set the GPU to 540mhz instead of 650mhz and the CPU down to 1,9 GHz down from 2.4ghz , this prevents the phone from getting hot yet provides far superior performance.

I checked the performance again with thermal throttling enabled and the device is quite slow and it doesn't seem to run at max performance at all, seems some manufacturers lock their devices to extremely low thermal limits to the point where you have nothing to work with at all.

Yeah you can say that again. Acquired a One M9 only to find out it completely can't run dolphin on the stock software. The device has absurd governor settings. Either all 4 big cores are on or off, and since running 4 cores is impossible the device basically files the cores and loads the little cores, even with the high performance mode enabled. Blows my mind that the Snapdragon 808 would run dolphin better.
This should help any samsung device for void thermal throttling
