There were similar complaints when DX9 and async audio were dropped, but they stayed gone. The issues DX12 brings can be more easily worked around, but someone has to actually do the work. Also, if someone comes along who is capable of doing the work, they'll likely also be able to work on improving Vulkan, as they're very similar APIs, and per unit work done, that's likely to be far more beneficial.
