Hey guys,
For some reason, even though my processor is set at max performance, the performance is cut in half about 5 or 10 minutes after playing the last story.
I am running a intel i7-4720 HQ processor on a windows 10 machine. I have never experienced throttles at max performance before, my laptop isnt even getting that hot.
edit: I think I fixed it by creating my own power plan. Im not sure but maybe the recent windows 10 update screwed up my power plan, so I made a custom one based on max performance and the game seems to be running fine for now. But if anyone has other explanations I'd be interested in hearing them.
edit2: nevermind, it still throttles when playing the last story and Im not sure why

What are your temps when the slowdown happens?

My temps are between 65c-70c, it maxes out at 75c occasionally, which is OK for a gaming laptop. I did a hard restart of my computer last night, and played the last story, and some graphically/cpu intensive bethesda games (skyrim) at max settings, and have yet to replicate the issue. so maybe I just needed to do another restart. I also ran some tests on my processor and according to lenovo my tests all passed.
Some laptop CPUs will start pulling down clocks as low as 65c.

This is the temp my laptop usually is, and i've had it for 3 years. This is the first time its throttled. Maybe its getting old. I adjusted my laptop on the cooling pad a bit better for airflow ( the only opening on my laptop is on the bottom, and under my screen). After that I did a hard restart and everything is working great, but I may get some compressed air to clean it further. Thanks for your help you guys.
3 years will definitely build up some junk in the fans. Don't blow the compressed air into the vents, disassemble the computer and blow outwards.
Hey guys, you were right. My processor throttles at around 70C. I sucked up the dust in my vents with a vacuum (not entirely sure if thats safe, but so far nothings broken), I then switched from direct3d to OpenGl, turned on the GPU texture decoder, and switched from auto integral to auto fractional ( which causes issues for a couple games, but I will remember to switch to integral if I play a broken game). After I did these things I was able to play at around 65C.
Odd thing is I can play Skyrim special edition at max settings with no throttling, as welll as my other steam games. Not sure why the last story is so much more intensive than everything else.
Thanks for your help you guys. My laptop is still under warranty, so if it happens again Ill just file a report, youd think a senior in computer science could fix his own computer though, but I don't do hardware, to many things can go wrong lol.
By Auto fractional, do you mean for Internal Resolution? Cause it's better if you manually choose a number like 2x or 3x, it has less issues.

Never compare a game running inside an emulator to a game running natively (such as a PC game). PC games relies mostly on GPU, emulators on the other hand (especially of somewhat recent consoles) are really taxing on the CPU and as such they will dissipate more heat and are more likely to throttle, especially on laptops and tablets...
Honestly we should make a rule that you can't compare emulated games to PC games. Then, I can just lock the thread the moment someone tries to use it as reasoning why they're computer can run a game. I'm honestly sick of it.
If we added it to the rules, people who have read them would know not to ask because we already explained it
