hey guys i'm new to the forums and am looking for some guidance, i have tried for many many hours to solve these problems on my own with no avail.

first off id like to say that as of a few days ago everything was running smoothly, i could play games including super smash bros brawl wii, mario kart, super mario galaxy 2 ( rare slight slowdown in certain areas ) on a perfect 60fps using 4k internal resolution with absolutely no problem.

Sadly now i cannot even get 60 FPS on any of my game cube games, just before writing this i was sitting on a steady 12-14fps at the title screen of smash bros melle GC.

i have made sure no background processes are hogging up my cpu, i swear i have tried every graphics configuration that could ever be conceived, tried versions 5.0 and 4.0.2, tried openGL 3D9 3D11 and 3D12 with various settings.

id like to note that it works fine on native resolution up until 720p.. but i simply don't want to settle for this because i know my specs have so much more potential, and as i said everything was working fine up until a few days ago Smile
also id like to note i did not change any settings between the time it was working and the time it was not.

I am currently using a alienware 15 r3

RAM - 16gb
graphics - nvidia geforce GTX 1060
proc - intel core i7 6700HQ
windows 10

id also like to say my laptop isnt running any hotter than when everything was working and i would post my settings but they all messed up atm from me trying to rid myself of this curse.

PS: rarely i can get the games running as i want on 4k again but as soon as i minimize/close a game the issue re arises with no editing to settings/ opening of other programs etc.

and it happens everytime i close it, then if i change the settings to something else i will gain a little fps.
its weird.. im honestly clueless.

no idea is a bad idea here people! im completely lost.. anything to try would be appreciated haha

if you would like any more details feel free to ask Smile

EDIT: Also im having issues in my gamepad config area.. all the buttons ( rectangles displaying the mapped buttons ) are shrunk to the point i have no clue what button is assigned to what..
any ideas on what may have caused this? it happened around the same time as my fps issue if i recall..
fresh installs don't help :/
Is your laptop plugged/in high performance mode?

it surely is bro :/ i could try overclocking my cpu but i dont think thats the issue
It sounds like your GPU if you can run it fine at 720p, did your drivers update and change something?

they may have without me noticing updates can be sneaky lol
think it could be it even though i can get it going on 4k sometimes and it only messes up again if i minimize? :o
ive also just noticed that just simply opening the graphics menu sometimes causes my fps to go back to normal, sometimes it will stay okay sometimes it wont.

any clue about my tiny button issue? xd atm i have profiles but if i ever want to make more it would be a pain :/
id post a screenshot but i seen someone mention on another thread new members cant ahah Confused
You should be able to upload pictures to another site and link them here afaik. Your graphics and controller configs would be useful.
settings are
General - http://prntscr.com/eqk9sm
enhancements - http://prntscr.com/eqka72
hacks - http://prntscr.com/eqkaoe
any my annoying little gamepad buttons - http://prntscr.com/eqkawe
so i just turned on the system messages thing and when i first load up a game it says something along the lines of E??? has been overwritten by game.ini

could whatever this is be the cause?

also "opening game settings may cause issues" but in fact it helps a little lol.

EDIT: im currently running smash bros wii on 1080p 60 fps.. though it drops down to 20 fps for brief moments but in places it shouldnt ex: character select but not when fighting.

also cannot run any other wii or game cube game atm other than ssbb, though this is the only game not giving the messages mentioned above
That message means a setting was changed from fast to accurate. Opening the graphics sets it back to fast.
BOTH windows and GPU in high performance? I would clean install your drivers.

any idea whats triggering it to change my settings? on SSBM im getting 15-20 fps in the menu and 40-60 while actually fighting and this is a game cube game.
i jump on the wii version of smash brothers and i get ~45 fps in menus and steady 55-60 while fighting with random short drops to 20 fps.

the games are lagging in the least demanding spots and working good while playing..
and the newer console with much better graphics is preforming better than the game cube version. this seems super odd to me :/

all my drivers are up to date but ill do some fresh installs tomorrow and see how it goes, ive been messing with this for like 8 hours straight with no luck haha.
