Unlikely, as the game has no effect on the video driver if you use the software renderer. As you still got the crash with videosw, it is likely not the GPU driver ...

Turns out the other crash was unrelated , once software renderer was turned on I could play through the room/crash area with no issues although at .1 fps
I powered through and beat the mini boss with this frame rate and haven't encountered a crash since.
It had to be the most frustrating hour I ever spent gaming.

I updated to the latest Android version today and this crash is still happening.
It's a shame as this game runs almost flawlessly on Snapdragon 821/835 devices.

There is a very high chance that this update hasn't touched your GPU driver.

When I launch dolphin it says OpenGLES 3.2 :145
It was my understanding that this is the.latest version

There are many aspects of a driver that can be bad even if it implements the latest version of OpenGL ES.

I just updated to Android 7.0 and the crash no longer exists.
