Hello everyone, first post and thank you so much for your hard work on the emulator.

I don't think my problem really has anything to do with dolphin but more with windows 7 and resource management. Everything runs fine as long as Dolphin emulator window isn't "in the background". I run at 60 fps at 1080p very steadily after I've played the game for a bit on both mariokart CTGP revolution and Xenoblade, but as soon as i click to for example a browser window I lose exactly 1/4 of my frames. Dropping down to a very steady 45 frames, which causes obvious problems.

The only odd setting I have is Enable CPU clock override to 125% (607mhz). And my problem seems to disappear when I uncheck it (I had it enabled to because it seemed to fix a huge audio issue in xenoblade chronicles as suggested by one of the testers in the wiki).

The only thing I could come up with to fix this was setting the priority on the process higher, but I couldn't get it to realtime only high.

I'd really like the ability to take advantage of my hardware while the window is in the background, any way around this?

Probably more a windows 7 question than a Dolphin question, but there may be things about Dolphin or the override I'm not understanding

Thanks

Edit - OpenGL for graphics

You were overclocking the emulated CPU, so Dolphin needs more processing power from your CPU since it will require a higher IPC (it will get more demanding). Which is why your speed drops as soon as you open anything else.

It's not that I'm opening anything else, just making something else come to the foreground, almost no extra resources

And it's definitely not limited resources...

Or it wouldn't drop to a steady 45 no matter how much resources I used in the background*, it should vary

edit - lol your rig, i run a 3470 and a 7950, there is no world where this is taxing me...with 16 gigs of ddr3.

you're laughing at his rig? was that supposed to be insulting? He was trying to offer his help, so it's nice to show some respect, even if you disagree with what they said

Good to know that you know exactly what Dolphin needs to run well, it's not like emulation is a non-standard workload or anything. Or that some games lag on a real wii. Why are you even here? You should know what's wrong!

Cheers

You boys know you can track your cpu load, right?

He was clearly shitposting in my thread after I made it clear it WAS NOT a dolphin being a resource hog problem

I shouldn't have to clarify i can run dolphin in 1080p in 2017 lol

I can only imagine his ridiculously low value rig is the reason he even brought it up

That or he knows who Ashoka is and assumed I'm a South Asian who types like an American? IDK I doubt it tho

I asked about windows 7 settings, not dolphin resource* requirements. If my rig was having a problem it would be obvious to anyone with any fucking sense.
Ok, just another genius who thinks he knows more than the devs. Don't bother posting anymore questions. Clearly you know more than everyone else. And, yeah...someone's who's helped in the forums since 2013 with over 1300 posts and a huge star rating was just "shitposting" to annoy you. If you keep up the insults, you'll probably just be banned anyway. Have fun with that

Ashoka

There are basic rules to emulation, no crashing

No slowdowns

It's not a resource problem

not magic

He just wasn't fucking reading

I didn´t shitpost, I don´t care who you are and I don´t want to know either.

I just told you what I had at hand, and said what I know about it. Taking a bad attitude won´t get you far.

About my rig, you got a problem with it? That´s what I could get (and I didn´t even buy this laptop, it was a gift from my cousin).

Anyway, you can send me enough money so I can build myself a better PC, and -maybe- have your respect? Not that I care that much anyway.
AMD GPUs work best with DirectX11.

You can define a core dedicated to the browser (or any other software) to avoid performance loss at dolphin.

Goodbye. And be more humble.
