That's because most people act like assholes on voice/chat. Try playing with my group sometime with voice/chat on, it's a lot of fun.

Well not with that attitude. A lot of times I feel like I effectively have to do that since I'm the only person playing defense/healer/tank and I can't do all three at once.
I'm also EST, American server. I usually play with voice chat off, but I'll turn it on if I'm playing competitive games so we can talk strategy. But yeah, Overwatch competitive can get toxic pretty quickly if you are unlucky with who you get matched with. It's one of the reasons I think solo queuing is a lot harder than going in with at least one or two other people. But I'm usually just as happy to play arcade or quick play.
As for people I like to play, I still say D.va is my main, but lately I also play a lot of Junkrat, Symmetra, and Bastion (loving the new buffs). Reaper is about the only attack hero I'm any good with, but I have a lot of fun playing Sombra (even though she sucks).
D.Va is my main too. I also play McCree, Mei, Mercy and Zenyatta.
I never play competitive because I suck, probably.
Pretty late at night usually, but that's just by choice. I can be on pretty frequently in the evenings, I just usually do other stuff during that time.

I don't think I'm bad, was Diamond in Season 3 and am regulary matched with GMs in QP (but does that really mean anything?)

They hate me and placed me in silver (when I first started) and I can't get out because they won't reset SR.
