Okay, I've got one last idea. I followed the instructions on this youtube link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8ExZ_Irz2Q) and downloaded the old dolphin version using this dropbox link (https://www.dropbox.com/s/py9khersno9ttf7/dolphin-master-4.0-5672.apk?dl=0). Could downloading from an alternate source be causing my problems? and if so, what can i do to fix it?
