Well, in any future version of dolphin (or any program that succeeds it in the future when everyone has upgraded to a machine that runs at least DX11), someone might make it. It's the future, anything could happen. I doubt it'd become the default, but it's not an impossibility that they will make a DX11 plugin. It's like touchscreen phones. Everyone thought that you'd only ever find touchscreens on those big CRT monitors. Then all of a sudden everythings a touchscreen. My undies probably have a touchscreen somewhere.

Of course, by the time a DX11 plugin is made they'll probably have DX12 or 13 or DX won't even exist anymore, who knows. Maybe the world will go OGL. Maybe Google will destroy Microsoft with their super-orbital-laser they're developing and make Dolphin a cloud-based web app. Who knows Tongue

EDIT: Oh yeah and what's this about the banned dude? Did he get banned for proposing a Dx11 plugin?

Hmm, i wouldn't say that.
There's a lot of things we could do better by using DirectX 10/11 instead of DirectX 9, and a DirectX 11 plugin is something which was in the talk some time ago, don't know if it will ever be done, but it's not unlikely Tongue

Try to remember who was thinking about coding it. Then think about who got banned from the forum. they were both mudlord and since he was the one that was going to make it, i really doubt it is going to happen

I wasn't referring to mudlord.
There's also a third option. OpenGL/Directx plugin. 2in1, like Id Tech 5
You would not see any improved performance or image quality/effects in dx11 vs dx9, so no point.
Actually what is the point of Dx11, I still haven't figured out what was wrong with Dx9.0c?
Newer versions of DX have newer rendering effects possible with them, at the moment most new games still make do with dx9 effects, alot of the new ones look the same as older dx9 effects but are just processed faster. There is usually only a very slight performance increase running games designed mostly for dx9 with a few dx10 effects added in etc. in dx10 or in some cases even a slightly lower framerate. It will be a couple of years before all new games make good use of dx10/11.
Still remember Half-Life, Unreal, NFS, etc. old days, when selecting the rendering engine was possible.
Games are now poor in terms of programming, and I'd rather stay DX9 till I have no more choice other than using OpenGL, won't even bother trying DX10+ only games, not that I expect much of DX10 and 11 anyways.
DirectX10/11 is used in PCSX2 emulator, with great success. These DirectX versions have APIs that match modern video cards better, and the driver is more optimized so less cpu is used for rendering.
Maybe I am missing something, perhaps DX10 better reflects playstation2 gpu than it reflects wii gpu?

It features Tessellation, Multi-Threading, and DirectCompute. Tesselation calculates a smoother curved surface resulting in more detailled images. Multi-Threading scales multi-core CPU's. This results in higher FPS (frames per second) while keeping increased visual effects. DirectCompute can be used to utilize the power of graphics cards to accelerate applications, resulting in improved graphics and faster desktop tasks.

Why do people still hang onto directx9/XP ? Ok vista's launch sucked no one had machines good enough and bad drivers (JUST LIKE XP) ?

Ok Vista brings about the new api removing drivers from the main kernel and allowing your video card driver to fail and NOT BSOD'ing you. Ok vista is now the older OS to 7 but without it the API wouldnt have changed. blah blah blah

Why a new directx ? Simple anwser improvement

IMHO maybe that should have labeled directx 10 as directx9.0d and dx 11 as Directx9.0e meh make it easier on people

tad bit drunkish but hey you dont expect your vcr to play dvd's do you?

Well, using a combo DVD/VCR often helps with that Big Grin

Thanks for the detailed answer Necorum, tesselation looks very useful as does Multi-threading (That'd be extremely useful for Dolphin, if I've read that correctly). DirectCompute sounds a bit like OpenCL though, which sounds interesting (DirectSound vs. OpenAL, Direct3D/DirectDraw vs. OpenGL, and now DirectCompute vs. OpenCL. Now just waiting for the rebranding of MS Office so it can be DirectOffice vs. OpenOffice Tongue )
