I'm wondering why it has to be a laptop and how exactly you play Dolphin on the go?

Not being sarcastic......wondering if there would be more suitable devices for you in the future whether it be a phone or more likely the Switch......Switch will be $300, a TRUE portable device, and I'd imagine it would get GC support if not also Wii support in the near future....

EDIT:

And I realize this is a Dolphin forum....but with your budget....the Switch has already been rumored to play GC games and I'm assuming it could handle Wii games. And it is running on a chipset used for Android so I'm sure it would end up hackable, especially consider how well Nintendo secured the Wii/Wii U.
Can the Switch run WiiU game ? Because that laptop can probably run a few Wii U games at 1080p
It also has 4k IPS panel which is good for watching HD movie

The Switch isn't out yet so I don't know....

What laptop? The $600 one that is $150 over his *maybe* budget?

I'm just throwing it out as an option that he can see what happens with the Switch when it launches. I have a feeling it won't be hard to hack and that it will support AT LEAST Wii games.

That's why I asked what exactly he wants to do with it.
The Switch itself is $300 indeed but you still have to buy accessories for it. Last time I checked , you will have to spend around 500-> $700
I never buy anything at launch , not even PC hardware

The Switch is more portable than a laptop , I don't disagree with that though you can do almost everything on a laptop , not just game
but hey , $450 is more than enough for a good PC

I would wait on OP to chime in with what he wants. I'm just throwing it out as an option, not saying it is the right one. But if ALL he wants to do is game on it, it is a good option at $300. Because there are options that make it more expensive doesn't mean he needs it. And you are still the same person that suggested a laptop $150 over his budget.

Anyway.....I'm not going to say anymore....I'll wait for him to provide some input.....and if he doesn't then he obviously doesn't care and neither should I lol.
