animation
2) "straightforward" skating/sprinting
Now, this high energy animation is little dull and should be actually faster. And what I mean by that is NOT the moment itself, but just the animation itself. In other words not how fast he sprint from point A to B, but how fast his legs/hands/body is moving while doing that.
I slowed this one down with the 1st accel code, along with the other things, that needed to be slower, so we need to make this particular animation feels like a sprint again.

Is hop LT or normal movement?
I'll look for these, no idea if/when I will find it though.

3) defenders not using full speed/ sprinting animation
And this last one will be probably the most challenging to solve!
It is, unfortunately, the biggest gameplay related issue of the game, aside from the hyper accel.
So there is a bug in this game where the
AI defenders not using the full speed animation
in the neutral zone (that's the zone in the center, between the blue lines).
What it does to the game is that the forwards can easily overskate the defenders which are just helplessly gliding and watching the forwards skating by them.
The problem is that this happens only to the defenders and that it happens ALL the time. Every time this situation occurs, the bug kicks in, no exceptions.
As soon as the defender crosses the blue line he'll start using the full speed animation, but that is way too late.

Well, as you can imagine, this is actually pretty game breaking, because that makes the game look like a breakaway festival, not a hockey at this times
Do you have any idea how to fix such a thing? If it's not doable another way, maybe force the defenders to use the full speed every time after they accelerate? As the worst scenario
This will be challenging for sure!

that's the normal movement. Just slightly move LS, so the player accelerates to his sides.
Does AI Defender mean when the AI doesn't control the puck? How quickly do they slow down when moving into the neutral zone at max speed?
Yes.
It' black jersey, number 4 at the 1st clip.
He'll do that hyper hop Accel animation and then he just walks, watching the white players (no26) sprint away with the puck.
The defender (no4) should sprint too, in attempt to catch the player with the puck.
Interesting question. I think they very rarely if at all skating in full speed, because in 90% they (defenders) skating backwards or just gliding, as the play is in front of them.
But as I said they do skate full speed as they leave the neutral zone on these break aways .
There must be some code that prevents them to use full speed in this area (neutral zone)
Oh, defenders are always the 2 last players in the formation. Each team have 5 players and goalie. 2 defenders back and 3 forwards. Forwards can actually use full speed in this situation. So it must be something with the 2 defenders.
Just to be clear... when is a human controlled defender in this situation, he can speed up and use full speed. So it is just AI bug.
I wonder... are AI defenders supposed to go slower heading towards the player's goal and regular speed towards their own goal? Or does that not make sense.
Well not necessarily, as long as they can stop and not killing themselves crashing to the net/goal haha.
But yeah, players can stop pretty quickly in the real world.
The other thing is that the defenders usually don't go very close to the other goal. They usually hold their position, so they don't give up the break away. If that happens (which is very rarely), they skate as quickly as they can to catch the opposite forward with the puck.
And that's where we have this bug. Are defenders skates very, very slowly when that happens.
But generally speaking what you said make sense too. Because defenders role is to defend their own goal rather than score goals on the offensive side.
This might not change as much as the other code (non movement animations), but I'm not sure. I still can't find a way to split forward and side accel apart. Do you think they are the same speed or is side accel faster?

I'll think of ways to detect side accel better and work on it tomorrow.
Great thanks.
I think it might be actually the same. It just looks even more unnatural to Accel this fast to the side.
Would love to better understand how you do these things one day, sounds pretty interesting
