DJ you were also the one who created the increased texture resolution pack, right? Is it completely finished or are there still things that need to be done?
Hi, so I've been working on it about 3 year's now daily and don't feel that it could be (completely) finished anytime soon.
I go to the every little detail with the textures so it just takes a lot of time. Its like a huge "playable", interactive book for me. Book of hockey history with beautiful 3d models of the players and hockey equipment. But ya, it's a lot of work. Especially considering you have everything multiple times.
For example, you have more than 30 teams just in the NHL, now every team have 2 or more jerseys. 5 or more different, unique sets of gloves for each team. Each team have own unique arena, with different ice design.
You have different skates, blades, hockey sticks, goalie sticks, goalie pads, catcher, blocker, unique goalie masks.. and there's 2 or more goalies in every team and about 20 regular skaters in every team. Lol
Etc, etc, it is little insane haha.
So I'm extremely happy that with this LOD hack and other neat stuff @onemoretry is working on, it is actually worthy. The models now looks really detailed and just awesome most of the time!
But ya, It is lifetime hobby

Uhh... I am just wondering, and don't get me wrong, it looks great so far.
But... Why this particular version of NHL? Why not prefer the latest version such as NHL 18? There is a new edition each year and it should be available on Xbox and PlayStation systems which are capeable of far more enhanced graphics.
Personally, I don't know a single thing about NHL, or sport games in general, it just not my style. I was just wondering what makes this particular edition being worth the effort of creating a texture pack and mods for while there are newer editions which are capable of graphics far more advanced. Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a newer entry in the series than to redo a fairly old one? For me, every edition of Fifa, NHL and every other sport series basically is the same each year, except for the improved graphics. But as I said, I know nothing about them. In fact the newer entries should have more features such as physics, licensed persons/teams and game depth, but perhaps I am wrong of this, it should be the natural evolution in programming after so many years of working on a series. Does this particular entry have a specific feature for example not found in the newer entries?
Just curious, that's all. Carry on with your work

!
Hah, you are right actually
So the reason no1 for me is that this is the last version of hockey from 2k sports which is based on quality physics system and quite a different from what EA is selling as a "new" game every year.
No2 I'm doing "all-time" mod, so it's not based on current NHL roster/players/design. I pick the best players that every played for the team with his equipment from his time when he played in NHL.
It might be from 80s, 90s, 60s whatever. Which again never was done before in the virtual world. And Inrecreate them.
So the idea is that it's not only a good video game, but also an encyclopedia from the very beginning of the sport that I played as a kid.
It probably reminds me a childhood or something, that's why I enjoy the work on it, even if it's overwhelming sometimes.
I also like the community here, that surrounds the emulator. Might be some factor too
Edit: I forget no3 reason Lol
So the next reason is that I know some of the developers that worked on the game. We were longtime forum "friends" back in the time of 2khockey.net
As I said earlier the game was originally developed for PC by those guys and then taken down on last call by the publisher, only released for Wii and those guys lost their jobs. So I kinda trying to re-create what they originally done with this enormous help from @onemoretry, @Tino and some others from here.
Hi @onemoretry,
sosthis was done using the "camera bug" in practice mode and Dolphins free camera feature. I think it looks pretty nice and realistic, what do you think?

Maybe still little bit of zoom and it's perfect

It's ok, more zoom might be nice, but all I could do is control the position of the camera probably. Still on the top of my list the next time I'm working on dolphin stuff. Once I have the camera position you could probably tweak it yourself.

awesome, looking forward to it!
I would tweak it to the dead haha
lol. I put some effort into it. I see that it has a preset list of camera locations for the non-gameplay camera stuff. Using the sideview hack it just gets stuck accessing the last used preset. So it's just a matter of where I want to edit the camera values now, since messing with the presets isn't right. Some other areas get hit too often to put more code there. I also have to classify position, rotation, zoom, etc.
So I ended up with this

Got to tell you the game is looking better than the big Xbox version imo in some aspects

Loving it!
Yep the game got pretty sofisticated camera system. Unique for each arena, just like in real life.
That's what I love about modding this game. It has so many awesome features hidden under the hood. It's like an opening the boxes where each of them can hide something really awesome.
As I said the game was originally developed for the powerful PCs and on the final quickly "optimized" for the Wii.
Who knows what all the guys had to temporary turn OFF!
So exciting
Btw., not sure if you noticed that, but you actually can control camera position and zoom from the camera menu, so that might point you somewhere eventually?
What's different between the test 2 and test 3 videos? I mean what are you working on tweaking?
Here's the first step to the camera stuff. Use the other camera sideview code with this:
Gecko:
$Camera sideview position unlock
C2829340 00000006
3C808039 6084E440
7C032000 40A20018
3C808000 C0441820
C0641824 C004182C
C0241828 D0630000
60000000 00000000
AR:
$Camera Sideview position change first two
04001820 449C4000
04001824 C5354000
04001828 00000000
0400182C 3F800000
You can change the AR or disable the AR and open the debugger then go to view -> memory and location 80001820 and 80001824 to change it that way. 449C4000 and C5354000 are floats that you can change.
Go Here and you can convert the hex to a number or a number to hex (first two boxes).
I think it may need more work, but it gets the camera working in other game modes.
Thé difference in those vids is just the zoom, nothing else.
I'll try everything you suggested, hopefully not making any mistake in the process
I'm just afraid that we can't use the Gecko due to those glitches it brings. It's not just a visual, you can't finish a game without a hockey sticks and goalies in the net Lol
Thanks!
