I tried. The amount of aliasing on Link's sword on Melee isn't different for me. Well, to be honest, pixel positions seems to be a little different, and maybe edges looks very slightly better, but it's almost unnoticeable, even FXAA or 2xMSAA do a better work. Better texture sharpness is true tho. I used DX11.

Yeah that's about what I would expect. There would be less aliasing if dolphin used something like a lancos filter for downscaling.

I estimate that the game running at 1080p in a 4K monitor would look slightly worse than the same game running at 1080p in a 1080p monitor due to pixel pitch differences. Therefore, the appropriate comparison would be the game running at 1080p in a 1080p monitor vs. the game running at 4K in a 4K monitor, assuming that the quality of the screen panels is comparable.
Under that scenario, the improvement in the 4K image should be subtle due to the differences in aliasing and texture sharpness that NaturalViolence described. The emulator will not create additional geometry or higher resolution textures from the original material to make your face truly melt.
If you are seeing a huge difference by rendering the game in a 4K resolution vs 1080p, on a 1080p monitor, then perhaps something else is different in the two settings.
What are the internal resolutions you are suing for 4K and 1080p?
Are you using any type of AA in both cases? I do see a difference when rendering at 3x (~1080p), using 4xAA vs. none. Higher levels of AA do not make much difference in my eyes.

I'm using no AA. The internal resolution I am using in dolphin is 6x or 4K UHD. My Gpu/ monitor resolution is set at 1080p. I would like to add that the beauty of the 4k resolution really comes out when using hd texture packs. They are a must in my opinion and the people in this community and others have done some really amazing work in this area.

Ah, now we're talking. Some of those packs have textures at very high resolutions which can be more fully revealed by running the games at 4K. I can certainly see how that would make a very appreciable difference between the two resolutions. However, I would not have guessed that running them at 4K but displaying them in a 1080p monitor would make them look much better than just running them at 1080p.
Also, I would suggest enabling MSAA when running at 1080p. It is a small hit to framerate but does improve the image quality significantly, especially when viewing the screen from a relatively close distance. This would give you a more realistic baseline for comparison because for 1080p users MSAA is a no-brainer.

One easy to explain example of 4k vs 1080p making a huge difference in dolphin is in Twilight Princess. If I stand on the furthest side of Kakariko Village and look down the middle in 1080p the far side of the village is blurry and I can't see anything clearly. Even in 1440p it is still pretty blurry, but if I bump it up to 4k I can see the whole village crystal clear. I haven't tested if I can achieve this with AA, but I doubt it.

If I remember correctly, Twilight Princess does have some DOF implementation, so increasing the IR also makes the blur smoother because the effect is applied to a higher image.
Want you want here is not 4K, but a code that disables DOF. Or maybe it's the Bloom effect...
