I played Iconoclasts and Hyper Light Drifter (both on PC)... And they both kinda sucked...
Now Owlboy on the other hand (PC version, should be on Switch as well) is fantastic. It has it's flaws but it is a great little gem.
If you haven't played Undertale, then what are you even doing here? Go buy it (on PC, comes to Switch soon) and play it!
I think we have really different interests in games!
Not completely, hehe.
Your profile states you like the Trails in the Sky series. Turns out, it is a huge favorite of mine too. The second Trails game has to be best JRPG ever made (the whole series is... The wait for Cold Steel III has begon). The Wind Waker is also one of my favorite games (essentially all Zelda games are). The Metroid games are great too, but not among the highest in my list. Beyond Good & Evil was great, but that game is way too old by now... And I gave up on a sequel since long... This years' E3 didn't provide me with hope that the sequel would be worth it. Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the better JRPGs, but not as great as the Trails series or Chrono Trigger, but still very good. But here our taste in games will likely end, I found the Elder Scrolls III and IV to be outstanding, until Skyrim came and sucked, a lot. The whole interface of Skyrim reminds me of playing a mobile game on a iOS phone.
I haven't seen Octopath Traveler yet. It does look interesting, but you ain't giving me much hope here it is worth playing it.
I liked Iconoclasts, not fantastic but you got what you deserve for its price.
Plot, dialogues, characters and music are good. The gameplay is kinda basic and academical tho, but setting the right buffs combinaison for each situation is interesting.
Also it's a short game so you can easily beat it in 4-5 long sessions.
Well, I was very interested by Octopath Traveler, but now you really make me more hesitant to try it MayImalae... I don't like difficulty just for more difficulty as well, especially in JRPGs...
Complete change of subject, I'm kinda sad about this news (
https://twitter.com/Brawlhalla/status/1036401501655244800, Rayman coming to Brawlhalla), because it almost means that Rayman won't come to Smash this time again...
As someone who hasn't played it I think the art style is interesting, but the storytelling sounds like a horrible idea.
Just started playing Octopath Traveler Friday night. I'm liking it so far, but I don't think I'm far enough in to truly comment on the storytelling. Just got Berg, Prim, and Alf.
Iconoclasts was good for me (I played it on the PS4, couldn't wait for the Switch version, impatient me). Story was a little obtuse, and definitely took a darker tone than I expected based on how bright and colorful the game itself is. I mean, some pretty f-ed up stuff happens to a few characters...

Like, one turn they'll do next to no damage, and the other the boss and its minions do 600 damage attack all moves one after the other and I just baaarely survive - and only because I was playing super cautiously, keeping my health at maximum and only using BP for breaking (which is not fun and draws the already spongey boss battles waaaay out).
which chars were you playing as?
i noticed the difficulty increase as well, but after changing my play style and figuring out some mechanics in the game (like the job system) + better equipment it became easy again
but things like making my scholar a part warrior part dancer part healer was a good idea, making warrior a dancer was also good idea,...
its true though the game has its hard moments (specially bosses) and it expected you to explore and not brainlessly do the story
Hmm. The only thing really spoiler-y is the name of one boss, but eh, I'll put it into a spoiler tag just in case!
The boss fight I was complaining about with the 600 attack all moves was the Omar fight (Tressa CH2). In that one, I was considerably overleveled. The recommended level was 22, while all of my characters were level 28-30. I don't care for difficulty, but I adore exploring, so I'm almost always overleveled in RPGs! I was hoping for a relaxing and quick fight, but being overleveled doesn't seem to help any at all in this game, certainly not in that fight at least! The enemies just seem to get harder to account for it. And yes, I bought the best defensive gear I could before I started the chapter, and they were still dealing that kind of nasty damage! And I am using secondary jobs, even min-maxing a little bit with guides to make sure I have good combinations.
And sure I made it through without dying on my first try, it wasn't like I died over and over, it just... it wasn't fun. If I took any risk there was a significant chance I'd just be combo'd to death in a single turn, so I had to make sure to always have BP to spare for breaking and healing. There were no satisfying break setups to deal massive damage, it was just a slog of doing the same thing over and over and over for an hour, hoping the RNG didn't decide to give me a game over on a turn. It was stressful and miserable to play. When I felt like, ok, surely the fight is over soon, I used Analyze and not even half of Omar's health was gone, and UUGGHH! It seriously overstayed its welcome!
For what it's worth, doing some searching, apparently the Omar fight is hated by basically everyone as like THE example of a horrible boss in Octopath Traveler. But honestly all of the chapter 2 bosses have been bad, though not to that extreme. But from what I gathered while searching, this is the norm of the game from this point on.
Just, bleh. Is there even a Big Plot™ in this game, and is it worth doing all of this to reach it? Well... ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌
On a less negative note - Captain Toad is fun! It's easy, but it's a nice little relaxing puzzle game.
I had it on Wii U and liked it as well... But I really don't want to buy it again on another platform if it's only for 2-3 levels added to this version...
Do anyone played it on both platforms and can say if it is really worth it?
Edit: "I really don't want to buy it again on another platform" said I, as I remember that I bought the 3 versions of Hyrule Warriors... (But it's kinda a Zelda-game, so it doesn't count X))
