I'm expecting it to be good, not perfect.

Well of course, it is subjective. No game is perfect. I just really want Nintendo to retain it's high status in the industry. I had quit modern gaming feeling that even Nintendo couldn't entice me this generation with the Wii U and Sun and Moon. AAA games don't appeal to me in the slightest, and I owe it to Dolphin that I can still enjoy my old gems in high quality by today's standards. The only game I actually really enjoyed last year was Kirby: Planet Robobot.

With the Switch however, while I was skeptical at first, the fact that Nintendo worked hard to make Zelda such a strong launch title tells me that they are really trying to get back on the gaming industry. It feels like art once again and now I'm returning back with the Switch......after exams. I still hope that there is a Metroid game on the way.

Skepticism aside, this is probably one of the strongest launch titles to date.
Waiting for my shipment to arrive on the last day is always the worst.
Invader Wrote:To me the problem with the Gamepad was that it was inessential to the experience. Very few games used it well and the price of the console suffered from it.

So your main problem is that the Gamepad was... a gimmick Tongue

In all honesty, if the game developers ignore functionality in console hardware, it's either 1) too expensive/time consuming/confusing to support it in a game or 2) is completely or nearly useless in a game. The thing with gimmicks is that they generally have fairly low value in and of themselves beyond raising attention. The fact that game devs under-utilized the Wii U Gamepad seems to say a lot about its value, so in that regard, people sort of aren't far off when they call it a gimmick.

To be fair though, NIntendo's products are littered with hardware features that are poorly or rarely used by game developers. Just look at how many games did (or rather didn't) use the IR port on the GBC in a meaningful way, or how many supported the GB Printer or even the 4-player Link Cable adapter.

Anyway, the fact that some people are saying BotW is a masterpiece on par (or even exceeding) OoT is pretty amazing to me. It's one thing for people to have their favorites like MM, WW, or TP, but BotW seems to be getting universal critical praise. That's not easy to do. Good job Nintendo!

eh, maybe I guess I should explain more of what I've realized I have a problem with. It's more so that people write off anything with a gimmick as trash. Hardly true if you ask me. When I bought my 3DS, I was bombarded with rude comments about how I made a bad purchase because the 3D wasn't worth it. The thing is though I wasn't interested in the 3D hardly at all. I bought it to play the games announced at the time (OOT, SF64 3D, Paper Mario :'( and others). Apparently it's completely unreasonable to buy game consoles to play games.  Dodgy

Also, when I said it was a cop-out I was more referring to people using the word improperly. Literally every innovation is labelled as gimmicky when announced. It can be annoying, when you're interested in buying a product for another reason then the "heavily marketed" reason. I guess I just have a problem with the negative connotation of the word. Smile

I'm tired now so sorry if this doesn't make much sense. Tongue

Edit: Welp. it's go time!

Target had a one per household limit. It was the first store we checked and the last one with a switch. I'm sharing with my brother for a while.

It looks like the joy-cons work with pc as well. Pretty cool. Smile

EDIT: Also, I tested the pro controller on pc and there is virtually no latency! Neat. Smile
