80 Games is just a number Nintendo dropped, it's not really relevant. It can be fake, or mostly eshop, indie games, or companies that said they will considering it...
Oh, sorry I just realized it may have seemed I was directing my comment at you. It was just meant to be a general statement for skeptics.
Anyway here's a list of confirmed titles:

Just out of curiosity, how many games would it need? That's another thing people bring up a lot that I don't really understand. The Wii U had an abysmal launch (during the holiday season). I can't be the only one that remembers that, right? I don't recall the PS4 or Xbox One having many games close to launch either? Maybe I'm missing something...

I have no problem against power, price and battery life either.
Looking back at the Wii U, what did it really have besides Smash and Mk8 and Pikimin 3? It didn't have a core Mario game like Sunshine and Galaxy (3D World does not count), a Metroid game and main Kirby game in which a lot of people were expecting.
People like Nintendo because their first party games are unique and high quality, look at Metroid Prime, TloZ Oot and SS and Mario Galaxy 2. It was disappointing that Nintendo made little use of their IPs compared to their previous consoles. Like what DrHouse64 said, it's part of their history. Even just Mario and Zelda wouldn't suffice.
It may have a huge quantity of games coming for the Switch, but it's the quality of games that matter which is what I expect on a Nintendo console. There are people out there who would buy it just for one game such as a new Metroid or Fzero game or Mother 3.
That said, it doesn't mean I won't buy it at all, I'll buy it when it gets a game I actually want.
Yeah, quality over quantity for sure. I just thought it was weird that 3 major first party games were coming to the Switch this year and people were complaining about lack of games. Zelda and Super Mario Odyssey make the Switch an insta-buy for me. That's just me though. To be frank, it's usually a bad idea to buy game consoles at launch anyway. Higher prices and lack of games are just a few examples.
Really I was just hoping this time, as opposed to the Wii U, 3DS, Wii, and DS launches, especially considering the switch's near universal praise initially, that there wouldn't be as many people shouting from the rooftops "NINTENDOOOOOMED!". My optimism got the best of me again.
To be fair though, this time it's been more, "Nintendo I'm concerned!"
I predict the Switch will have a slightly rocky launch followed by more people buying it by the holidays. Considering the Vita was able to sell very well in Japan, despite lack of games and support from Sony among other things. I think the switch will do just fine. A Nintendo handheld not selling well is pretty much unheard of.
Fun fact, if you remove the multi-platform games from the 5 confirmed games the switch is releasing at launch, you'll have 2 games at launch. 1,2 switch and bomberman
I'm not trying to start any fights. I'm buying a switch+online fees whenever Splatoon 2 comes out, and purely for that. I just thought that was really funny.

Eh... To be fair, LoZ: BOTW seems to be designed more for the Switch than the WiiU, from the performance differances I've seen.

But... but... how will you play finger guns without a switch? That's like at least $1000 worth of fun. Nintendo was so nice to only charge $300 (+50 for the game...
Seriously).
If that game breaks 10,000 sales by the end of the year, It might permanently change my perception of humanity.

Comparing it to the Wii-U is a non-starter, the Wii-U had 33 games available in its NA launch window. This included Assassin’s Creed III, Mass Effect 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and New Super Mario Bros. U as launch-day titles.
The Switch has 20 games within its launch window (9 launch day), the Xbox One (which was considered a poor launch) had 29 (23 Launch). But the bigger problem is quality. The Switch is leaning on BotW, with too many of its launch titles being effectively shovelware. Its launch window only adds Mario Kart 8 and Skyrim to the mix, both of which are old titles at this point. The Xbox One by comparison launched with Forza 5, Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed IV, Battlefield 4, CoD: Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, and Ryse; 8
significant launch day titles, plus all the standard sports games and shovelware. Wolfenstein and Titanfall polished up its launch window.
All that said, if Odyssey and BotW end up being solid, I might end up buying a Switch when it drops to around $200. I'm also hoping more Wii-U titles end up ported, since I never bought one.
Ehh, poor launches are the norm, really. No one seems to remembers that the Playstation and the DS had terrible launch titles, and they both sold over a hundred million units. Or that the N64 had
three launch titles! The PS4 launch was heavily padded with last-gen games and multi-platform games. When you take out titles that were already on other platforms, the PS4 had Killzone Shadow Fall (a disappointing title), Knack (platforming beat-em-up, niche), The Playroom (VERY niche), and Resogun (joint release with the PS3 edition coming the week after the PS4). That's it! The majority of its launch lineup are games that were already released on the PS3.
The Switch launch really isn't that bad in perspective. That, and I really think they moved the switch launch up a couple of weeks. If you consider the entire month of March as its launch, then the launch looks far better.
Either way, as with ALL console launches, it's best to do a wait and see approach, unless there is a launch game you really want. I really want to play zelda and snipperclips on the switch, so I preordered. Others want to wait until summer, when zelda, mario kart, and splatoon are available as a really strong core set of games. Both perspectives are great!
Also, the Xbox One, thanks to its TV and Kinect focus, had one of the worst launches in console history. The games that it came out with were kiiiind of irrelevant when they were so overshadowed by the horrific targeting of the console! It's a really poor comparison point.
Thanks for the info May and zurginator!
I think it's important to note that the focus on launch titles is pretty irrelevant when the time it will be selling the most is by the holidays. If you consider the launch as Winter 2016, that whole problem goes away. The term launch title is kind of driving me nuts at this point. I guarantee (just like with every other game console) It will barely matter in the long run. The launch in March was so they would have plenty of games by the end of the year. That's was clear from the day Nintendo announced a Q1 launch. If anyone was expecting a bunch of amazing titles to be released in March then you were already setting yourself up for disappointment. March is the drought time for the video game market in general.
...I rambled again. Sorry.
