I'm now getting nearly 60 fps on most games thanks to an antivirus scan on both disks...
damn those malwares
still can't play Sonic Colors though, that game is an fps killer.... But I guess I'm not supposed to name the games, eh?

There's nothing wrong with mentioning which games you're playing.
Try using Dolphin 3.5. I was told my Mac Mini was too weak to play dolphin 5 (despite 3.5 working perfectly). I bought an imac 27 inch maxed out, and apparently it is still too weak (despite having 4.0ghz quad core and amd r9 gpu). Dolphin 3.5 is capable of running wii games at 4x native resolution at 60fps.
I've been an IT for 5+ years so I may have some experience under my belt when it comes to running dolphin on a older slow machine likes yours. I used to use a old laptop as my daily driver, it was a HP DV5-1251nr, it had a 2.9 Ghz Dual Core CPU, 4GB RAM, I think it had a 5400 RPM HDD but I upgraded that to a SSD (just some advice, I stay away from any HDDs with RPMs below 7200, they really are slower and tend to break faster), my laptop also had a 720p screen and a GeForce 9200M GS 512MB max allocated RAM size 2302 MB. Contrary to most folks you can run dolphin games at full speed with these specs. I would download the latest dev build of dolphin and only change settings like audio level and if you don't use sound all the time like me then set it to no output it saves fps, then make sure the other settings are at they're defaults by hovering the cursor over the boxes and reading the note and following direction to check or uncheck them accordingly. Also make sure you set the games directory since it might have been moved after the wipe. In Graphic window I would suggest you set it to Direct3D 11 make sure you've got the latest drivers for your GPU and have configured it separately then select it as the adapter full screen resolution should be the maximum resolution supported by your display. In enhancements make sure your just on native 640x528. Test your games now and see what you fps number is you may need to check that box if you didn't already if your looking for the fps in full screen mode. If that number is steady at 60 you can probably move the native quality up to 1.5x I would continue this process until the desired quality and speed has been achieved.

Apple is really good at marketing, so good that some people ignore everything that was said, including the (very important) fact that Apple simply has bad GPU drivers.
A couple of ways that are cheap to upgrade you computer involve: getting and few cheap fast HDDs that is if your system has multiple SATA ports and running them in your choice of RAID, mine is RAID 0 then move all the dolphin files and games onto those disks to improve speed and relieve the system disk of being under load, you can also do this with a SSD or NVME drive. Uprade you CPU, I always hit the cheapest one that can max your bus speed then I go for more cores then higher clock speed in this way you avoid bottlenecking. RAM can be expensive or inexpensive, I go with a 2 kit of 4GBs or 8GBs that way you get the Dual Channel benefits. GPUs are the most expensive upgrade a computer can normally make, notice I'm just running off my CPU's integrated GPU the reason for that is because I lacked the money at the time I built this PC to get the GPU I wanted, plus I wanted to wait for the GTX 1050 SSC by EVGA which I'll be buying soon, it's $120 not a bad price for a new card with all the latest features.

The hard drive is almost never a limiting factor of Dolphin's performance (except for custom texture packs, I suppose, but you should be prefetching those if you want good performance). Why are you recommending this?

Again, if you're trying to help someone run Dolphin faster, there is not much point in that suggestion.
Nah, they
like to waste their time and money and use unsupported versions, since they
know what the issue is (it's Dolphin's fault, of course, and D3D having more attention than OGL which is completely wrong).
For future readers though: if you're running OS X, it's really suggested to dual boot and use Windows because OS X GPU drivers are simply bad: inefficient (slow) and can sometimes cause graphical issues.
Welll, I have tried everything around here, some games are playable, but I'm starting to believe the problem is with my machine.
Right before formatting, I cleaned all the pieces of my computer thanks to the fact that they were filled with dust.
Also, I do get top speed, but for a couple of minutes right after I start my computer, and what happens is that it starts slowing down gradually.
So, I'm convinced that I have a CPU problem. I can play most games that require GPU power but games like Sonic Generations (on Steam) or demanding Dolphin games that require CPU power are really hard to go by. And no, I just can't make Ishiiruka work, for the heck of it.
Well, I'll be waiting for your responses, I'll be looking for the problem on my machine this afternoon.
