That didn't work either...

It's something to do with savestates...

I loaded up the game fresh and went into the race and it ran fine...

Save States are pretty well known for breaking stuff. Don't overrely on them. Of course you can use Save States since it is a function for Dolphin and of course it should work properly. But in those cases it causes bugs, you should ensure you have a normal save file.

Most often, you can fix an issue by just restarting the game as you normally do by loading a normal save file. Loading a Save State also causes the memory the be reloaded as it was. For example, if you disable a cheat but boot the game and load a Save State when the cheat was enabled, the cheat is still enabled.

Of course Helios...

The tool keeps crashing...

I choose the 2 builds and it downloads some stuff, then promptly crashes...
