Full Version: Is it weird that Super Mario Galaxy 2 seems to be harder to run than Super Mario 3DW?

The galaxy games are designed to maintain 60 FPS, regardless of the user's hardware, the Wii is capable of playing it at 60 FPS. You're just emulating a Wii. 40+ FPS still isn't considered enjoyable... I would only consider maintaining fullspeed at all times enjoyable, which is either 20, 30 or 60 depending on the type of game (PAL has a option for 50 Hz through) GameCube and Wii games are not designed to have a fluctable FPS, there is no option to lower graphical settings unlike native PC games. There are only a few Wii games that have FPS dips such as The Last Story. Even for native PC games you would like to have a constant FPS, either 30 or 60.

But is it what you consider playable. It would be possible to play the galaxy games at "little-higher-than-half"-speed from start to finish. But ask yourself, would you have an enjoyable time doing so? But there are plenty of games which demands less of your CPU like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it might actually run at 60 FPS at all times.

Many games can actually cope with slowdown well, but that does not apply to the kind of slowdown you get from not being able to run emulation at full speed.
Ahh yes, sorry my fault for implying so. Yeah, I meant the lack of fullspeed because of lacking hardware. I know... My phrasing is horrible at times. I meant that GameCube and Wii games are not capable of changing their graphical settings. Every Wii has the same specs, so each game "should" be designed to run well on the Wii. Unlike PC gaming where your experience differs per game and hardware setup where you as the user can tweak the graphical settings to make a game playable at decent frame rates. Either your PC is strong enough to play a game on Dolphin or it is not. There is no "middle way" like tweaking the graphical fidelity of a native PC game. Well, I supose you can play around with the internal resolution and the different settings within Dolphin, but you get the point. Using PAL might easen the load too, when you use 50 Hz mode.

Non-fullspeed emulation also causes slowed audio. I usually have the CPU Overclock Override enabled at 150%, it actually does miracles for The Last Story. When playing on the Wii it had some serious FPS dips in a few hectic scenes. Dolphin was actually able to maintain fullspeed in those same hectic area's.

Unless... I am horrible wrong at this... Could be... I am not a developer... Please don't hate me for it Smile.
