Dolphin, the GameCube and Wii emulator - Forums

Alright gentlemen,

despite me having installed good ol' visual c++ redistributable along with the new dolphin 5.0 I get said error message. I've already tried uninstalling all the 2015 versions of visual c++ on my PC and reinstalling the one that comes with the dolphin 5.0 installer and also tried reinstalling a seperate one from microsofts official site.

When I reinstall dolphin along with visual c++ I get no error message during the installation although the step where Mr. Installer gets to visual c++ takes considerably longer. When it's done and I try to start Dolphin I get said error message.

I can't even install visual c++ from microsofts official vc.redist.x64 because I get 0x80240017 - Unknown Error. I am not turned on by this.

It´s a longshot, but do you have a KB2999226 installed? Try to download and apply KB2999226 update manually from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=49077
Then try to reinstall VC++2015 runtime again.

Just a stupid question, you have Windows 7 SP1 installed, right? The problem is definitely tied to the Windows update. If you google VC++2015 0x80240017 it´s all over the place. Also the KB is mentioned in the error log. Try to check C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\54050A5F8AE7F0C56E553F0090146C17A1D2BF8D\packages\Patch\x64\Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu.

You could also try this update that was also distributed through Windows Update - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48234

Edit - Just checked things out - api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is part of the Universal C runtime that was introduced with Windows 10 and then distributed to older Windows via Windows Update. VC++ seems to require this. Might have been part of the optional updates, in that case you could have missed it. So definitely try it.

I ran into someone with this problem. I tried everything on their computer; the computer's install was simply busted. Reinstalling windows completely from square one was the only way to get it working.

Beginning to think that this is the issue, sadly. I keep running into some error message telling me that "the update isn't applicable to your computer". It might mean that all those updates are already installed, but I have the feeling something is fishy there... but I can't be arsed to reinstall windows. Gah. Maybe I will finally update to windows 10... is it still considered crap? Haha.

Windows 10 has been pretty widely accepted here on the forums (because of DirectX12). A majority of the people here haven't had any issues.

So this Universal C runtime from here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48234 won´t install on your machine either am I correct? In that case something went wrong with one of the updates. Sadly there is no guarantee that update to Windows 10 would solve the issue. In case of busted Windows updates, worst case scenario is that the upgrade process might even get stuck in a bootloop (I experienced that myself on a friends machine).

If you don´t clean up your hardrive - particularly Windows Updates regularly, then the updates could be uninstalled and then installed again.
Try running this from elevated cmd C:\Windows\System32\wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:2999226
Or just wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:2999226
Then you could try to install the patch again.

If that doesn´t work running sfc /scannow from cmd could also help.

Also you haven´t answered me if you do have a SP1 installed and also if there is Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu somewhere in this folder - C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\

Also you haven´t answered me if you do have a SP1 installed and also if there is Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu somewhere in this folder - C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\

SP1 is installed and Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu is in da house as well. When I try to run the command you gave me, it says that the update is not installed though. When I try to run Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu I get "the update isn't applicable to your computer" again. Guess my stuff really is broken somewhere then?
