Hi I'm trying to get the best possible settings for my config but I'm not sure of the limitations of my machine . I'd like to post my specs and ask people if it's possible to get smooth gameplay at 1080p with the following:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-5557U CPU @ 3.10GHz × 4
Graphics: Intel® Iris 6100 (Broadwell GT3)
Memory: 8 GB
running off of SSD drive on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit
I have noticed that if I have set the internal resolution in Graphics Settings in Dolphin Options to 1080p the game starts to stutter (FPS drops and sound is glitchy). I have also tired using the overclock feature without any great results. Currently I am only getting 20-30 fps
I thought with a quadcore machine and a great graphics chip like intel would have made this game run like butter, but am not sure if I need more ram or?
Intel doesn't really make great graphics chips
Iris Pro is pretty good, but their Iris chips are just *okay*. I wouldn't push the internal resolution above 2x with recent intel GPUs. Keep the internal resolution at 2 or 2.5 and you should be fine.
For Dolphin we generally recommend the following GPUs:
Nvidia > AMD > Intel (Linux) > Intel (Windows) > Everything else
And if anybody comes in complaining about your ULV CPU, ignore them because assuming you have a half decent heatsink, a Broadwell ULV CPU *is really efficient*

thanks for your reply. SO I guess my machine doesn't have what it takes then to play at 1080p.. I have a question though about something you mentioned
"assuming you have a half decent heatsink, a Skylake ULV CPU *is really efficient*"
I simply bought the Intel NUC as is. Do you think I need a different hear sync to make this work better? What else could I do with hardware/DOlphin settngs to increase the performance on this machine?
Oh, nope.
The NUCs have perfectly adequate cooling to handle that CPU.
It's mostly if you had like, one of those quarter inch thick ultrabook that relies mostly on passive cooling. Which you don't.
EDIT: Oops, I meant to say broadwell instead of skylake. Either way, broadwell ULVs are perfectly fine at those speeds.
ok one thing I have noticed is if I overclock in Dolphin Settings and set it anywhere really low from 5%-20% the audio goes back to normal, but the framerate goes awful. If I leave the overclock OFF then the FPS is ok, but sound is terrible. THis test is on 2x native at 720p
Don't mess with the overclock option. That modifies the internal clock speed dolphin emulates for the internal CPU. Setting it to higher speeds helps solve lag problems when games lag on real GC/Wiis. Setting it lower than default helps weaker computers run Dolphin better at the expense of internal framerate and a lot of games glitching out like hell.
Also, make sure you have audio set to HLE. And that you've selected the JIT Recompiler in config
What game is lagging for you at 2x? You may have to stick with 1x or 1.5x

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOU HELP. those settings are the way I have it setup right now. One game im testing with is game is Mario Kart. The other is RE4.
RE4 is pretty tough on Dolphin, you may have to play at native res for that game.
Mario Kart Wii is only laggy in the menus. Even on high end systems because of the way the game works. Get through the menus, see how the races perform.
Oh, and make sure you turn off v-sync

Strange. I mean I can get decent FPS with crap sound, or decent sound with crap FPS. Why does one compromise the other?
Also.. Wondering though.. Is RE4 30 fps max? I cant seem to get more than that.
