Do you think the compatible LG DVD-ROM drive will be able to work with MAC OS X ? My superdrive is a usb plug separately... Not a built in.

You mean, if you manage to connect the compatible LG via USB? Sounds like a good idea, I won't guarantee it'll work tho. In fact, you can do this even if you have an built-in disk drive, it will recognize it as a second drive.

But you now, it's way simpler and worth it (in money terms) to do that with a real Wii.

Okay. Does LG dvd drive also have a usb plug like SuperDrive for MAC OS X laptop ? My Mac OS X doesn't have dvd drive built in. I had to buy a DVD Drive USB.

The drive isn't enough. You need a special ripping program to exploit the firmware of the drive, and OSX won't run those ripping programs. Unless you're willing to install Windows, you have to buy a Wii to dump your games.

Yes, I am aware of that. I already had Wii to dump some of my games in previous time. I had Windows before I move to MAC OS X. Thats why I want to understand about MAC OS X and dvd drive. And how they works to my understanding, that's all.

The LG DVD drive is a desktop one, not meant to be plugged on USB. You have to find a SATA to USB adaptator.

Okay if you're this hellbent on wasting money

Go get that LG drive, go get a USB to SATA adapter, go download friidump.

Watch when it doesn't work because one, Friidump was never really designed to work on OS X and two, because it's entirely untested on whether a USB to SATA adapter works when using the program (If you improved the source to get it working correctly on OS X).


Seriously, just get a Wii off of ebay. They can all be softmodded without hardware hacks for free, has extensive documentation, and probably costs about the same as a dumpable DVD drive + a SATA to USB once you factor in shipping. On top of that, it'll actually work.

Since when are there compatible drives that use SATA? I thought all of them were so old that they used IDE, so you needed an IDE to USB adapter, not a SATA to USB adapter.

There is at least one native USB drive that works with FriiDump/RawDump, so an adapter isn't required if you buy the right drive. It's still useless since the ripping programs don't work on OSX, though.

I took the first LG of the compatibility list (LG GH20NS15) and the internet says it's SATA http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00076532.html
Well, maybe some drives on the compatibility list are IDE, I didn't check all of them.
