I've been trying to get Dolphin running on my PC for a while now, but haven't yet been able to get it to connect to my Gamecube controller (Nintendo Smash Bros. Edition)
I have both a Mayflash 4-port adapter and the official WiiU 4-port adapter as well, but in all cases Dolphin lists "Adapter Not Detected" even when I check direct connect and restart as has been suggested several places. "Direct connect" doesn't even stay checked when just opening and closing the Controller Configuration menu.
When in "PC mode" on the Mayflash, my controller can move the mouse cursor in an ellipse around the center of the screen, but nothing else, so it's probably not a hardware issue.

I'm running the following:

Dolphin Version: 4.0-8034

OS: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon
Processor: Intel Core i5-4460
RAM: 16 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

I've followed the instructions on this guide as well as scouring a variety of other forums but the issue persists and I haven't found a solution that works yet.
Anyone have an idea of what might be the case? Thanks in advance.
Does it work if you run dolphin as root?

No, when running as root, the adapter is still not detected.
Have you tried plugging it into a few other USB ports on your PC? e.g. a USB2.0 or USB3.0 port

I've tried it in USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports both, neither get the adapter to recognize
Possibly check the version of libusb installed on your system - it has to be newer than 1.0.16, preferably on the latest (1.0.20).

Code:
libusb-config --version

returns 0.1.12

Can that be right? How do I go about updating this?
Maybe try these commands:

Code:
sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade
I've tried those a number of times, Dolphin's behaviour is unchanged and libusb still lists the version as 0.1.12

I had this same issue. To fix it remove libusb-dev. and the libusb-1.0 whatever. Then follow this link: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/general/libusb.html to compile libusb 1.0.20 and recompile dolphin. the new install should now have a working adapter.
