I am currently running Dolphin 4.0-7840 and am trying to emulate super smash bros melee and play on netplay with some friends; however, dolphin doesn't detect the controller. Windows detects the controller just fine and the controller can be seen in devices and printers in the control panel however it doesn't show up in dolphin's drop down menu in the controllers section (see picture). When I select either the first or second option in the drop down menu and move the control sticks nothing happens, so further confirmation that nothing is detected.

Any help would be appreciated!

What controller are you using?
The thread title says "Xbox 360 controller for Windows"
Might give an indication about what controller they are running.

Well it should be that second option, when you say you tried moving do you mean in game or in the controller config?

I have tried in the game and on the config screen and neither worked.

Yes, I use it in steam all the time. It has always worked really well.
After selecting the second option in the dropdown, the next step is to map each of the gamecube controls to the XBox360 controller by pressing each of the buttons in the controller section and then pressing the Xbox360 controller button/stick.

I have tried doing that, but the xbox controller is not detected. The sticks/buttons do nothing in the config screen (or in game) when i move them regardless of me trying to map any of the stuff. Dolphin itself doesn't seem to recognize that there is anything plugged in, despite windows registering the controller just fine.

I have seen the config screen on a friend's computer when the controller is registered and the buttons get highlighted and sticks move when inputs are pressed. None of this happens for me.
Maybe try updating DirectX to the very latest version that you can find.

Have you installed the Xbox360 controller driver for Windows?
