Me and my friend are trying to play 2 player mario kart using NetPlay and Hamachi. We connect fine and load into the race but we are getting the same problem where our character for each other seems to be driving into the wall all the time and we are in different positions for each other. When we described it to each other what we saw it was basically the same thing. SO my character for him was in last place driving into the wall and same for me but his character.

If either of you are using emulated or real wiimotes, don't. They cause desyncs over netplay. GC controllers work.
