I just bought the Dolphinbar everyone is raving about, saying that once you pair it, its for good. Not so. It worked for a few minutes last night after setting it up, then this morning I tried adding a second player (second Wiimote) and it starting switching players, and then at times it wouldnt work at all. TELL ME I DIDN'T WASTE $24.
(Dolphin 5.0-rc-34)
Did you update the firmware? The multiple wiimote problem should be solved by the latest firmware.
Is the Dolphin Bar mandatory in order to work with my Wiimote with motion plus? Because I'm experiencing that the buttons are working just fine as well as shaking and tilting. Only the pointer is missing on screen or at least not reacting. So that lefts me with the impression that a SensorBar is needed here. Is that correct?

You need a sensor bar for pointing at the screen, but it doesn't need to be a DolphinBar specifically. Most sensor bars only contain the IR LEDs that are necessary for pointing, but DolphinBars contains both that and a way to connect Wii Remotes over Bluetooth. If you don't need the Bluetooth functionality, I suggest just getting a regular sensor bar instead of a DolphinBar. DolphinBars have had problems with the IR LEDs burning out after being used too much. Just make sure that you get one that's powered by batteries or USB, unless you're fine with it being connected to your Wii while you're using it.

So a simple bluetooth dongle like I am having is not sufficient in order to use all funtionalities of a wiimote motion plus but a sensor bar is needed on top of that to enable the cursor function? Thanks for your swift reply!

Yes. A Bluetooth dongle has everything except the IR LEDs, so you need a sensor bar too.
I have not updated the firmware because i heard that it may disable some other functionality (don't remember what offhand) but maybe i will give it a try. Is the very latest revision recommended? I think it is 4? Is that right? Thanks.
The latest firmware works fine and prevents burnout.
The latest firmware will disable the ability to use the sensor bar while no Wii Remotes are connected. You won't need that functionality unless you want to use it as a sensor bar for a real Wii.

Err.. No. It tries to prevent burnout by turning IR LEDs off when not in use, long play sessions will still burn the IR LEDs anyway after some use. It's a hardware design flaw, no firmware can fix that.

Latest firmware available for DolphinBar currently is v5, you can get it from MayFlash website...
