4.0.2 is two years old and sucks.
Tell me about it. Thing is I'm pretty far in the game. There is no way to load states in another build is there?

Ah, no. What I would do is in config > gamecube select the "..." next to memory card A and manually select your memory card (Should be in Documents > Dolphin Emulator > GC), load your save state, make your save normally, then upgrade. The dev build should load from memcard just fine.
Additionally, don't overwrite your old dolphin emulator folder when you upgrade builds. Sometimes files are removed (gameinis) and that can cause Weird Things to happen.

Already tried that. Yet when i open the game nothing is saved. :S

Try making a memcard file on your desktop, somewhere you can clearly see, and then make the transition to a newer build.

Using both save states and memory card saves can cause problems, depending upon the game. The only way to transfer to a new build is to load a save state, and then create a proper memory card save that you can use in a newer build. If you can't make a save, it probably means you did something that the game doesn't like, such as perhaps making a save state using one save file, then overwriting that save file with new progress, and then trying to load an outdated save state, or something like that. If the game doesn't blindly overwrite your save file, then it may be confused by you having an existing save file that doesn't match your current progress within the game (or having no save file at all, because you have a save state that says you resumed your game from a save file that no longer exists).
As such, your only options would be to keep using save states on 4.0.2 or to start over in a development build to get the bug fixes that come with it.

That's what I figured. I was hoping for a miracle but I started a new game on a newer build. Thanks again!

I am sorry for your loss. Next time try not use the "save state" feature and only save your game on the memory card slot.
Using save state/load state and then doing a save on the memory card can cause this problem, apparently. At least it happened to me once.
