Press Y, reboot.

Once you've rebooted, open command prompt again

sfc /scannow

reboot, try running the 64 bit installer again.

sfc /scannow gives me "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

Did you open the command prompt as administrator? Also check this:

If that fixes that problem with the repair service, i bet it also fixes the VS redistributable problem.

Reset my computer to factory settings, as nothing else worked.
Now when I run the installer, it hangs at "Processing Windows7_msu_x64".

I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out.

Did you have problems with other stuff in the past? If i were you, i would work on the "sfc /scannow" thingy. If that doesn't work, it's some bigger problem than the VS redistributable installer, and more likely to have a solution.

How sure are you that your hardware is working fine? Especially the HDD and your RAM? If one of those is broken, you get the weirdest problems.

There is something very wrong with your computer if you were running that prompt as admin and SFC couldn't run.

Never mind, I FINALLY got it to work!
