I don't know, I'd much rather do programming on something with a single really fast core than even a dual core - if it's something performance-heavy, then I'd not like to have to be forced to deal with threading my program.
So, what I've got options are get the i7 and that $80 ASRock MoBo, OR I can squeeze the crap out of my budget and make a Mini ITX home theater computer sporting a GTX 960 4gb, intel i5-4690k, 8gb 1600 DDR3 Ram, and an Asus motherboard, all stuffed in a tiny case.

If someone is using PC not only for gaming, but also for work (Programming, Video/Photo editing, 3D Graphic, Music) than 4/8 cores is a blessing

That depends on the speed of the cores.

As it currently stands in general:
4 core intel cpu > 8 core amd cpu > 6 core amd cpu > 2 core intel cpu > 4 core amd cpu

sckyless

I'd suggest buying an SSD, which brings much better user experience for PC. I recently got one and it only takes a few minutes to erase iphone which would for 2 hrs in the pass. I think it's the best investment in pass 2 yrs
