Maybe this one should do the trick?

I saw that one. There are no instructions or demonstrations that show if it will do what we want it to do or not...

Well that seems just silly! Why release a forums mod for people to use without providing any indication of what it does or how to use it? But I suppose you could ask them about it. But for interim, perhaps spoilers or user settings are the best (makeshift) solutions.

Although I don't know what language is in the screenshot, I'm assuming it adds a small bar saying "This image is resized. Click here to see full size" because it's almost identical to what I've seen in some other MyBB forums. And since it doesn't provide instructions I'm also assuming it works automagically for images that are too big (like set up the plugin and forget it), at least in those forums it's how I remember images working...
EDIT: after digging I found the plugin source in a GitHub repository. Looks like after installing it, the admin can choose the maximum image width in admin control panel and that's all. Any image or thumbnail that is bigger than that will get a small bar saying "This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image."...

Ooohhh, yea I think I've seen that! That might be a nice addition here.
We could also just do it in CSS. Based on a little googling, all it took was this:
In the CSS and images can't exceed the size of the forum anymore. I added it with chrome's inspector and it worked pretty well on this thread. It did mess up my retina signature though.
Apparently the sized bbcode doesn't like it much...

Err, any update on this? Can we do something by ourselves or it needs server-side modifications?

To my knowledge there hasn't been any real update. :/ It will be up to shonumi to decide how to handle it.

I'll have to see what needs to be edited from the Admin CP. I'm not exactly sure how the CSS for the current style work, so it would take a bit (but not much) testing. Can anyone post an image here so I can look at it for reference? By that, I mean a super-large image.

=/
Guess I'll continue adding spoiler tags to big images I eventually bump across the forums in the mean time
(but the plugin or the CSS trick would be really neat
)

Take the uncropped super-wide version of the walpaper I'm currently using then...
