IMHO, his current PC SHOULD be capable of running Mario Kart Wii fine most of the time. If the built-in HD Graphics on my G3258 (which is much weaker than the HD Graphics 4400 on your i3) could stay at 60fps most of the time at native resolution, you should be able to keep it pretty solid. Granted, the IGP IS the limiting factor here if you want higher resolutions.

A GTX 650 Ti like OP is looking at will be more than enough to get at least 2x in most games.
With Intel HD Graphic there were no way to get Mario Kart or Rayman working. It started lagging in the menu, and in game fps dropped to 15.

I have testet with GTX 650TI boost, and it works perfectly on standard settings.

Is there any settings I should change to get the best image/performance during gaming on my HTPC, or should I just leave the settings at default?

BTW:

A bigger case is not an option for an HTPC. I am actually considering getting a smaller one , maybe Fractal Node 202 Smile
In fact , your case is bigger than mine but mine can store top of the line GPU due to its design
GTX 980 for example

Use OpenGL backend , 3x Internal Resolution and enable FXAA . Your GPU should be able to handle that
I will try the same settings as you when I am back home Smile

Any settings I should change regarding sound as well?
