I installed Dolphin on my Linux machine a while ago, and it worked great. I was rather busy with a lot of stuff, and so I didn't get a chance to update the emulator or even use it for a while. However, yesterday I tried to download the latest revision of Dolphin at that time, and when I downloaded and ran the .deb file, I got this message in the software centre:
I've hunted high and low, and I can't find anyone having this error, nor can I find the package. I have libavcodec54, but nowhere can I find libavcodec56. I've tried install libavcodec-dev to no avail. I've installed all the Dolphin dependencies from the wiki guide and I've upgraded to g++4.9 for regex support, which was an error I got building from source (see below).
I tried building from source, trying to follow up all the error messages I got, and following the official instructions perfectly. That didn't work, and even if that did work, I don't fancy building Dolphin from source every time there's a revision.
I'm not in a position where I can upgrade to 15.04.
How can I resolve this error message? Thanks!
The .debs from the download page require packages that won't be packported to 14.04 it seems.
That's a disappointing to hear

Oh well, guess I'll have to do without Dolphin for the time being. Thanks!
As far as I noticed our buildbot now produces .debs only for Ubuntu 15.04 and newer...
Hey there,
Yeah, the buildbot only supports 15.04 and up now. I would have preferred 14.04 cuz you know, LTS, but hey. I didn't make the update to it. (EDIT: Apparently it's 15.04 now because of libstc++6)
Anyways, take a look here.

This is seemingly an unofficial Dolphin PPA that supports back to the current LTS, 14.04. It has stable and dev PPAs, kept up to date. Just follow the directions closely because you might need to install a second PPA.
Who manages the website for dolphin? I'd like to talk to them about getting the dolphin PPA more exposure. It could make Ubuntu users' lives much easier.

Ah, that's brilliant! Dolphin runs now, however it says "Dolhpin 4.0-Git" when I try and find the version. Is there a way I can make 100% sure I'm running the absolute latest build from Github? I'm pretty sure I am, but I want to make completely sure. Thanks for the help!
Having the same problem trying to get 6554 running on Mint 17, which is based on 14.04 LTS. I specifically
need 6554 since that's what the netplay community has picked as the current standard, anything else will desync trying to play with all the 6554 users. The PPA doesn't have 6554 in it, so it's no help to me.
Since the package won't work, I tried to see if maybe I could just build it myself.
According to the wiki libavcodec is an optional dependency that can be skipped at compile time, I don't care about video recording so that should be fine. But turns out there's another issue, GCC 4.8 vs. 4.9. 4.8 is the default in 14.04,
and although I specifically installed the 4.9 PPA referenced on the wiki I'm still getting errors about 4.8 anyway:
Code:
~/git/dolphin-emu/Source/Core/Common/FileSearch.cpp:6:2: error: #error <regex> is broken in GCC < 4.9; please upgrade
#error <regex> is broken in GCC < 4.9; please upgrade
I'm at my wit's end trying to find a workaround. All I need is the libavcodec dependency, a package built without it, or a way to build with 4.9. Just need to solve any one of these issues, can anyone help with any of them?
well, missingno, if you'd read the thread, it said that "buildbot no longer supports 14.04", which would in turn mean that mint based on 14.04 wouldn't be supported either (b/c mint and ubuntu are very similar). if you require that build you could always run it in wine or backsource it yourself
Yeah, I said I tried to build it myself upon realizing the package won't work.

Please don't run it in wine.
