The "second batch" people use as a defense is really just a minor alteration to improve the buttons to make the device actually usuable. Otherwise yes there's no difference. It's a shame they copped out so much on the nexus 9, it could easily have paved the way for a jump in tegra devices. Setting a good example was important.

Articles were saying HTC resolved all those issues with newer Nexus 9 units released earlier this year....so maybe if you'd bought the device when it first came out then you can problem send it back and get a new one delivered to you...but all in all the Shield seems like a good pick, I got my eyes on the Nexus still but the Shield is in my favor atm.

Those articles only ever mentioned the buttons getting fixed. Nothing about backlight bleed, warping, cracking or any of the other problems.

Well either way you should stil try to get a replacement and who knows?...they might actually send you one with no bugs after all.....and Warping???
All those articles reference one post by someone on reddit saying he bought another one and it didn't have the same issues with the power+volume buttons that his first unit did. That's all - even though the devices have the exact same model number, markings, etc.
There. Was. No. New. Hardware. Revision. Regardless you can go look at any current display model at any store where they're sold and the same problems will be evident.
I'm out of this thread. You're asking questions and then ignoring the people who are kind enough to answer you, choosing to believe what you find with google instead. It would save everybody's time and effort if you just did that to start with.
I settled for the shield although amazon raised the fucking prices up nearly $40 its plenty cheaper and I will still have enough money left for cases and shit, also I read in another thread that Armv8 and AArch64 on future versions of dolphin android, I know the Nexus has this but do the Shield has this as well?
Its not just articles its reviews by SEVERAL people on different product websites also not sure if you're everybody btw...
Also sorry for making it seem like I was ignoring you guys replies I just wanted to make extra sure about the Nexus before I went with either tablet.
EDIT:The Shield device is so far so good, having some fun with Dolphin as well i'll report back with more info on wether I traded it back or if there are any issues or nah.

I turned in the Shield after seeing how dolphin won't support armv7 devices in future builds since the Nexus 9 has Armv8 which is supported I assume I settled for that, The build quality is alright the mushy back is still there but theres no light bleed at all on the device, so I guess I am the second person besides the dude on reddit to say that HTC has released new models that has no Manu-Errors in it (despite all of the customer reviews on several sites saying they got new models with no bugs aswell) so right now the nexus is running dolphin good as I expected it too!
I can/will post videos of games being played on Dolphin on the tablet if you guys like?
I was about to say ARMv7 is no longer supported so yeah, N9 comes automatically

So yea then what the hell was the point of me getting a shield anyway when its no longer supported?
And here I am getting bitched at for not choosing it, so glad I decided with the Nexus 9 in the end, the build quality is fine, and theres no issues with my model.

It's because you're being stupid for buying a device purely for emulation. The nexus 9 really isn't better at much else. The shield tablet is far superior for actually native tablet usage. Buying your tablet based on whether it can hobble half speed in dolphin or not is stupid.
