You should get Pentium G3258 + Asrock Z97 Extreme 4 or MSI Z97 G45 instead of that i5 + B85
In dolphin benchmark , G3258 @ 4.7GHz is as fast as i7 4790k @ 4.4GHz
Most tester can overclock G3258 to 4.6GHz without extra cooling (Of course , high-end thermal compound like Arctic MX-4 or IC diamond 7 is a must)
G3258 is dust cheap , you can save your money for a better GPU and a better mobo or even a SSD
At that speed , it will blow away the i5 4690 (being 50% faster)
Besides , Z95 EX4 and Z97 G45 have top of the line onboard audio Realtek alc1150 which i'm having right now . It's as good as a mid-range sound card
If you like a "portable desktop" , you may have a look at Asrock Z97E mini ITX + Silverstone Sugo CUBE SG06-LITE which is the smallest ITX case afaik . You will need a SFX power supply though

Just finished making the purchases today before reading any of this. For better or for worse, it's done. xD
By media center I meant basically playing or streaming 720p/1080p videos. It shouldn't be that demanding. Maybe I phrased that wrong.
Tomorrow I'll finally put this 13-year-old Atom 230 to rest and test the new rig. Can't wait.

Anything, even a crappy Dual Core, is better than what I have (I can't even have 360p YouTube streaming without major lag on Windows 7).
I'll probably mess around playing things like Sunshine and TTYD on 1xIR. After a couple months I'll shoot for a high-end GPU and that will be it for my social life.

You're gonna have a joygasm.
I had a pentium 4 for like 5 years, I upgraded to an i5 last year and I'm in heaven.

This is very accurate. xD Can't express the joy of basic stuff (Facebook, Outlook, and especially YouTube) not lagging anymore. And I'm sure you know what I mean by finally being able to watch "certain" contents on 1080p.
On Dolphin, most GC games I tried ran fine. Some lag on Super Mario Galaxy 2 on x1 IR obviously because I don't have a dedicated GPU yet. That guy from the video I posted earlier used a 650 TI OC Edition and had 2x IR, 4x AA and 16xAF with no drops. Apparently that GPU isn't too "expensive" (around 630 BRL), so I may buy it. But... Can anyone recommend a cheap GPU for at least 2.5x or 3x IR without lag? Can't be much more expensive than the 650 TI OC.
Edit: By the way, I'm using a Corsair CX430, so the GPU can't be too much of a powerhouse in W terms.
GTX 750 (3xIR or 4XIR , 55W in full load )

Wouldn't GTX 750 Ti be a better choice? But it's a little more expensive than GTX 650 Ti...
While googling about Direct3D vs OpenGL, I found the following post by the user KHg8m3r:
There's a problem with the current drivers and Intel HD 4600. If you use any AA with an IR past 2x, you will hit massive slowdowns.
(I can usually run games around 2.5-3xIR with varying AF, fullspeed on my HD 4600)
That's the same iGPU as mine. I get lag while trying to run Sunshine and Twilight on 2.5/3 (even after updating the drivers). So I guess the driver problem he mentioned still exists or he just has a better CPU?

HD pr0n? (LOL)

1080p video streaming is an easy job even for the crappiest dual-core desktop CPUs. Try something more demanding like 1600p or 4K with a high framerate.
Nope, Sunshine is one of the games I need to drop down to 2x IR for
You should get a dedicated GPU anyways, because Intel still has bugs in their drivers for other things, like bounding box in the paper Mario games.

If my PSU can handle it, I'll get it. 3x on Galaxy seems satisfactory.
So far Twilight ran fine on Hyrule Field (initial area) on 1.5x, but even on 1x gets lag on other locations such as the places with the Tears of Light (North Faron Woods, Kakariko, Eldin Bridge). Weird.
Wind Waker runs even up to 2.5x on easier areas. On other ones anything more than 1.5x will cripple the experience. It looks great on 2x and above, almost as good as the Wii U remake.
Anti aliasing screws the FPS every time for most games so I just leave it off.
Paper Mario TTYD runs almost perfectly but randomly crashed 2-3 times (something about exceeding 2GB memory or whatever).
Melee runs pretty well obviously. The graphics seem a bit lackluster but maybe that's because I'm used to Brawl/Smash 4.
Galaxy 2 isn't perfect, but it's playable. On 1.5x I can still have a good FPS but overall it depends on how heavy the level is. The games looks freaking gorgeous on 2x-2.5x, even if it gets laggy as hell.
I experimented giving my own spin to using my PS3 controller. Of course a Wiimote + Nunchuk would be optimal for Galaxy and the sort, but it's working pretty well and surprisingly with few frustration.

By the way, whenever I go into fullscreen, I can't go back. Pressing alt+enter changes the screen ratio somehow but doesn't take me back to windowed mode. I'm forced to use ctrl+alt+del and when I get back, the emulation is ultimately glitched and I have to end it, losing progress if I didn't save previously.
